Hi guys i have an xenon board running the blades dash i purchased the nand-x kit not too long ago

I have gone for the pin header option now these seemed nice and easy to fit and all points have been tested with a multimeter however i constantly get cannot detect a valid flash controller.

I have read everywhere and it seems my soldering would seem to be the problem. I tried resoldering again and get the same problem.

This was tested on an XP machine with coolshrimps jtag tool. The drivers were correctly installed as well as port95

The power brick was plugged in when this was tested

So is there any advice or can i send my board to someone?

will try and get some decent pics as my camera is a bit sh!t

I personally think soldering the QSB's is much easier than using the pin headers but that's just me. If you already tried the pin headers you could try soldering the wires directly to the board but make sure you don't damage the points with excessive heat or soldering/de-soldering.

I'm assuming that when you connect the NAND-X to your PC both lights (orange & red) come on? However seeing that the message you're getting is 'could not detect flash controller' it should mean that the NAND-X it self is working but it can't find the NAND to read from.

If still no success and you want to send your board to someone to do it for you then post in the 'Request A service' section of the forum stating your location and what work needs to be carried out.

Yep, it means the nandx cannot talk to the 360s flash controller. Recheck your soldering. If you're still having problems, you might want to have a closer look at the points you've soldered in case youve managed to break a trace.

i was considering soldering the wires directly
now this may sound really noob if i solder the wires directly do i strip the wires put them directly through the hole and solder from the back?

Yes both lights on the nand-x

Just solder to the alternate points on the reverse of the board.

Also make sure that the ring of light is connected, otherwise it won't work I think. As you already taken the solder out of the holes you can put the cables through that was mentioned, but I have just soldered the wires directly to the top points which also worked fine.

i did wonder this however i thought this was only necessary for non xenon boards where they have soldered to the ROL

You don't need the RoL connected for reading/writing to the NAND. Furthermore, you can turn the console on/off using an IR controller without even having the RoL connected :)

thanks for clearing that up!

i do have another question relating to the JTAG it looks as if someone has tried to previously solder to the J1F1 points and ruined the trace on the top of the board can i go to the trace on the reverse as they are still good.

I was thinking of cutting the wires and soldering them to switching diodes going through the top of the holes and soldering to the bottom of the board!? will this work?
