Hello. I want to mod my xbox 360 with the Hitachi 78 drive and I've been researching on how to do this.
I'm reading the Textbook section for the Hitachi v78 which is what I have in my xbox. I'm reading the steps so far and it talks about doing a RAW dump of the original firmware and saving that as a backup. Easy to understand. Starting at step 11 it talks about selecting the smart hack patcher. It talks about generating a file which becomes the hacked firmware, then you are supposed to open it and verify that the drive key is the same. Steps 18-20 then tell you to select your dvd drive in the list and click on "read and detect differences" then to let the flashing process finish. When that's done you hook the drive back up to the 360 and test it out and it should be flashed.
Now I'm confused because was I not supposed to connect to Xbins and download a hacked firmware? I did that and saw two files in the correct folder. Their names were C4EVA_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_4_Stealth.rar and Maximus.Xtreme.1_6.for.Hitachi.v0078.rar
The video doesn't clarify this either. So do I even need the above two files from Xbins??? If I don't need those files for flashing the DVD drive then according to the guide what version firmware is flashed to the 360 after following that process described?
Another thing I found just a few minutes ago was the readme file in 360 FIRMWARE TOOLBOX. It talks about encrypting/decrypting a file, and there is a description for replacing your key.
After reading the guides and readme files can someone please correct me if I'm wrong here? You make a dump of your original firmware and that will show you your DVD drive key. Now instead of opening the file you just dumped (which is what the 360 mods video seems to be saying) do you instead open the 78_16.bin file from the Maximus.Xtreme.1_6.for.Hitachi.v0078.rar file I downloaded from xbins. Once that is open I delete the key showing and type in my key then click the replace key button (still not sure about the encrypt/decrypt option). Then I do the differential flash like the video says with the 78_16.bin file? Then I click on that detect differences button and it will flash the drive with this 78_16.bin file which now has my key.
