We have two xbox 360s, both ms25 and flashed one no problem with an ICH5 chipset.

The second one we were having the exact same problem as ktp420 posted below. So we thought maybe it had something to do with the bootmaker, so we made another bootdisk and forgot to save the backup orginally.

We are now at the same point as before (the ktp420 post), where it freezes when executing xread or xflash, and on top of that have no backup. Is it possible to use the backup firmware from the other 360 we flashed the first time (even though the serial numbers are different), and if so, how do we do that? Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

No, you can't use a backup from another drive. You need to dump the firmware to obtain your drive key. Without that, your motherboard is useless.

What about if you boot to dos and just type:

mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin

That should dump your original firmware to the directory that mtkflash is in. If that works, then you can make your Xtreme firmware yourself.

Ok, I am not sure if I was clear enough.

We partially flashed the fiirmware already. We actually got past xRead somehow, and it got to xFlash and it went to the 1st bank, and then froze at 39% on the second bank. Therefore, we cannot make a backup of the "original firmware" because the firmware on it now is corrupt. It will not even go to the dashboard and shows 1 red light wth an "E65" error message.

What options do I have? I am sure someone has forgotten to backup their firmware at one point and messed up the flash...what did they do?

Thanks for the quick reply.

BTW, we did the command you told us:

mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin

It brings up the 4 options to choose your chipset, and we chose ICH5 masterand got basically the same message that it keeps giving wen we try xRead or xFlash:

"port: If0, Master/Salve: a0"

Well, if you've already tried to flash, your only hope is that the orig.bin that was read originally is a good dump. Download 360 Firmware Toolbox, open your orig.bin with that program, see if it recognizes the firmware and give you a valid looking key.

We have no orig.bin for the second xbox360, only the first which flashed successfully...that is the problem.

Then you most likely have yourself a $400 brick. Depending on whether you overwrote the drive key section or not. I'll ask caster420 or I'll look over it myself about the drive key location and the bank/hex address location at 39% of Bank 2 to see if you overwrote it or not. Either way, you're probably going to have to send it to somebody who can remove the chip and desolder it, then dump it with a programmer ... that's if the firmware even contains your drive key.

caster420 or anybody else who wants to look into this, I think pg 16 on the SST datasheet explains what addresses are the banks.

Really bad news...that is not what I wanted to hear :(

PLEASE, SOMEBODY HELP ME! It makes me mad that the we flashed the first one so easily, and the second one I guess had a newer firmware for the ms25 (firmguard I think it's called) which requires bad flashing or the enable0800 disc...was not aware of this at the time.

this is too bad man.. you messed up yourself by not being aware of what possibly can happen.. now you face the facts, now that you've lost your dvd drive key..

if you can't recover that dvd drive key, then you can throw your Xbox360 in the garbage bin. however i am interested in buying the samsung ms25 ill give you 10 $ for it :p

and no you can't get a replacement drive since you do not have the dvd drive key >_>
