I posted a message earlier and I am still having a problem with my xbox. I am in need of assistance.

I have a v1.1 xbox. I opened it up and found the mod chip. I am not sure what the brand is. It has a plug in pin connection. Besides the serial number on the circuit board there is a VM3 on it. Any ideas on what chip this may be?

This is the problem I am having. When I turn the xbox on in goes right to the evox dashboard as usual. When you go to load a game off the hd in will go to the installing screen for about 10 seconds and then go right back to the main evox screen. Only about half of the other applications work. A few of the emulators work, about half. They do the same thing. They attempt to load and then jump right back to the main evox menu. I also have the nexgen launcher loaded. It will load to the main nexgen menu, but when you use that launcher to load a game from the hd it will once again attempt to load and go back to the main evox menu. I have three different media players, and only one will load, but it will not run a movie or cd. When you launch the xbox dashboard an error 21 pops up. I have tried going to the file manager and running a game from a disk, but once again it will attempt to load then go back to the main evox menu.

Any idea whether this is a software or hardware issue?
If it is a software issue, would it most likely be an evox issue?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jon

21 - anywhere - This error says that the machine was booted to display a error, basically someone told the machine to reboot (or launch a xbe) with this flag, and the error code just means its been rebooted by the flag

Copied right from the boot error codes link in my sig. If you boot your box once, power it off, boot again and try going into the MS dash without doing anything else does this error still come up? Never had to work with this one but as far as I am aware it doesn't have to do with missing files or a hardware problem.

Follow the ID your chip link in my sig and check out the tables of chips at Xbox-Scene. You can click on the images of the chips to see larger photos along with past versions. This may help you out when working on your box.

For the whole problem launching items, I'm not sure what to say. I'd start with trying to eliminate possibilities. Making sure you have a complete set of MS files (what DJBOOBY is suggesting I believe) would be a good start. Burn or extract a Slayers ISO and there should be a complete MS set somewhere on there. Be careful with the xboxdash.xbe file, if this has been replaced with your mod dashboard (you will likely see the original renamed as "msdash.xbe") and you replace it with the stock MS file you will probably loose your ability to do mod activities without a boot disc.

While it is a bit extreme you could wipe the HDD (backup first!) and start from scratch. Install things bit by bit, ideally with current versions and fresh config files, and test after each change. If you are still having problems then it is either a mod BIOS or hardware issue. It doesn't sound to me like this would be a mechanical problem (DVD or HDD issues) as you are not receiving read errors and have no mention of odd sounds from either.

Do you have any idea what BIOS you are using right now? If your chip supports it (has 512KB+ of storage I guess) you could put on the latest Team Xecuter BIOS, X2CL 5035. This BIOS is rock solid.
