Ok I followed the instructions for the 1.6 rebuild.. got everything done... Put it all back together with a new western digital 160 gig hard drive (7200 rpm)... I hit the on switch, it cuts on then off then back on, the indicator on the front is red and the disc ejector is blinking and will not open...

Help with Hitachi 0047DJ

No matter what I have tried, Windows doesn't seem to read my drive.
Running windows xp 32-bit.
Drive is visible in BIOs.

Tried:
Slax 2.1: While running, it goes through a "could not turn on cooling device" and "driver too slow to respond" error multiple times and ends up not sending the drive into Mode-B.

Jungleflasher:
Reads the drivekey in the DVDKey 32 tab fine.
In the Hitachi tab, I try the Send Mode-B button and follow it's instructions. It works and the drive does get put into Mode-B (established by requiring two presses to close and opening automatically).

Then no matter what sort of refreshing or restarting of any components seem to make a difference. Been stuck on this for a while now so any help is appreciated.

Also, the first time I thought something was working, I tried the Send Mode-B through JF and a bubble appeared from the taskbar saying it found a new drive. After half a minute or so, it's gone and it said to restart my computer to make the new drive work. It did not show up in JF or on Windows so I did try to restart and has since not seen that happen again.

Yes, I can use JF to open/close the drive as well when it gets into Mode-B.

Okay.

After getting into Mode-B, the only thing that does anything is if I don't change ports in the Hitachi tab, I can open/close with the buttons. Nothing else can do anything or see the drive though.

I don't have anything else running.

Well, The drive tab selects my computer's DVD drive, which is a LITE-ON. Assuming you mean the "Read to Source" button. The following occurs:

Dumping f/w of Hitachi 0046/0047 by Mode Select Method via Win32 API
Unlocked!
configure upload failed

When your pc reconises the drive (bubble in the bottom corner as you put it) refresh the list of available drives thats to the right of the hitachi tab. Select the hitachi drive and try again. Or make sure portio is selected instead of the win api option. Let us know how you get on.
