so here's the problem. i've pretty much narrowed it down to having to resolder the pin headers especially 1, 13 and 14 (according to most of the research with problems people have been having). i've been trying for a couple hours to install my x3 and get it to work with the x3 bios. unfortuantley i haven't had that much luck. i got into the xbox, did all the soldering and the original flashbios came up, and i flashed via HTTP with x3 1959 in 1mb bank one. in the other bank, just to make sure everything was in right i installed a 1mb x2 bios. the x2 bios boots up just fine without a hitch.

but i'm looking for all those nifty features in x3 to come alive!!!

does anyone think i should stick with the pin headers or desolder and try my luck with the wire install and see if that works? also, could there be another problem if the x3 bios only boots up black screen and no sound, yet the x2 bios boots up normally? one last thing, does anyone know of what kind of test or device i could use to check to see if the lpc points and the pinheader have good contact with one another... so i can try to narrow down the problem? one other thing, i have the HDD from my old 2.3 lite with all the junk on there (evoX dash)... could that be the problem.. do i need a new spiffy HD?

HELP PLEASE! :p

oh yeah i have

an xbox 1.4 with focus encoder (used to have a 2.3 lite solderless and i decided to go big with the x3, with an already modded 120 GB HD with evoX dash installed)

modding is pain... i live for this stuff :)

thanks in advance. :D

Double check the deck height of the pins on the header (all pins exactly the same height!) re-solder pin 16 (the lonely one) are both lights lit on the chip?

Have you tried setting the dip switches to the x3 bios bank and holding down the clear button durring boot? TRY THIS BEFORE RE-SOLDERING!

Hi

Ok, sorry but you really dont make much sense in your post.

First you tell us that you get cromwell flash bios screen up no problems, then you telling us that you need to re-solder everything cus it aint working...

first.. i would scrap the x2 bios on your x3 chip, and just flash the 1 meg version of the bios arcording to the version of xbox you have. setting the following dip switches on your banks to on on off off off

then i would press eject and power to check i get my back up bios loading correctly and then take things from there?

sound logical to you?

then we see if your install is wrong.. have you checked the executer switch panel for soilder splashes? try removing that switch panel first and pluggin your xbox power cable (yellow) stright into the mobo instead of into the x3 switch panel? see if that chages anything.

sounds silly, but have you pressed the power button too long and the x3 chip is disabled, it is very sesiative press the power button very fast i mean fast!!, and see if you was disabling your chip cus you was holding it in too long when powering it up?

your post is very confusing, and sound like you think you know what your doing but maybe you dont?.

good luck

1 more thing..

remeber if your xbox boots to cromwell flash this means your install is proably ok, you say you are able to do both even flash an x2 bios WTF FOR? get rid of the x2 bios and use only X3 1959 - 1024k.

and leave it.

This is all true listen to him first then do as i say later if it does'nt work. Bt it sounds like a software (BIOS) problem.

thanks, i'll take all the advice and try it and get back to you later today.

just to clarify,

it seems as though the installation might be right, because i do get to the flashbios screen without a problem. i can flash easily, but after i flash i can't get the xbox to boot with the x3 bios, i've tried with x3 bios ver. 1959 and 1957, all i get is a black screen with no sound. i can easily go back to the flash bios by hitting both the buttons.

the reason why i put (256k x 4) x2 bios is to see if the modchip boots at all. and with the x2 bios, the chip boots fine with sound and everything all the way to the evox dashboard.

knowing that the x2 bios boots means that we know the d0 pt, hdd, and lan are all soldered right and most of the lpc's are soldered correctly. BUT, since the x3 bios wont boot (or i can't see/ hear it boot) might be the 13/14 pin and 1 pin since x3 live config uses those specifically to boot while the x2 does not.

will x3 live config even boot with an already modified HDD installed w/ evox on it? is there some software problem i'm overlooking?

i'm probably going to dive back in and check all the heights of the pins and desolder/ resolder the specific points i need for x3 live to boot.

i'll keep ya updated

oh yeah, all the lights are on on the chip and lit up properly, chip still booted with no sound or video with only x3 bios installed w/out the x2 bios. held down white button during boot to no avail.

thanks! :x
