NESXBOX

Lately I have been working on a new project, I'm placing all the innerds of the XBOX inside a Front-Loading NES Control Deck. So far I have the inside of the bottom part of the NES case dremmeled out to lay the Laptop HDD and motherboard in, now its all about getting the drive and PSU in. What I plan on doing is aligning the DVD-Drive to come out where the front door opens, it give a nice feel and to make use of the cool door.

Can't wait to post the finished product as it is currently going rather well.

If you pull this off it will be the coolest thing in the history of time!

You get the Ron Jeremy Mario pic just for thinking that up!

Good luck!!

You should find a good NES emulator also ;)

Excellent :)

Now all you need is a way to make that gun work on the Xbox so that you can have an official playing experience with the best game ever, Duckhunt.

UPDATE:

I've gotten all the inside crap on the bottom of the NES case cleared out with the dremmel, going good so far. The next objective is getting the A/V Input and Ethernet holes on the back of the casing, that way the Motherboard can lay down flush in the NES case.

Also got the top part of the case behind the door cleared out so the drive can fit [Samsung 16E SD-616 Computer DVD-Drive :)]. I placed a spring to pull on the door, so when the door opens when the drive pushes out, and the drive tray goes back in, the door will close by itself.

The location of the controller ports and two USB ports have been undecided at this point, I'll know after I get the drive mounted in the top and the motherboard in. If any of you read my post asking about a Laptop HDD Converter, you'd know I'm using a Laptop Hard-Drive inside of this case. Space is kinda limited, so I'm just going to throw a converter on a Samsung 60gb Laptop HDD. The addition of an X3LCD is also in the plan as well.

I'll be posting pictures in each update and my next one tomorrow when I get my camera.

What are your plans for the most advanced NES ever after you finish with it? (sell it on ebay, keep it for yourself, give it to a friend/present?)

Well, to be honest, all the dremmeling and such isn't nearly as easy as it sounds if you take a look at the inside of the NES case. Alot has to be done, but it sure is paying off.

But I plan on keeping it for myself and making it my primary XBOX Case, my XBOX is currently housed by a Halo LE Green Case with Green lighting. Then once I transfer the insides from Halo case to NES Case, I'll sell all of the Halo case stuff on eBay.

by dremmeling, you mean removing excess plastic with a dremmel tool right?

Pictures would be great, once you get your camera, just so we can see how big of a project it is ;)

Yes, by dremmeling I mean the tool that uses different bits to drill, cut, and such.
I should have my camera back tomorrow by like....12-1pm [Our time, sully]. Yeah, basically all of the excess plastic on the NES casing interior is gone, it was incredibly time consuming. I can't wait to see the finished result, as I'm sure the crowd thinks the same.

Thanks for letting me feel like I've done something unique, that was incredibly gay of you!:D

Go make another thread for his own project, this is my work, not his...

yeesh.... where is that power supply going to fit?

EDIT: ahem, it seems that X-tendo wasn't creative or unique enough to put a DVD drive in his, because he wasn't smart enough to put a Laptop HDD in there. As you can tell from the first post, it is indeed a different machine.

I got a place for the PSU to go, right next to the DVD drive in the top lid compartment, it will rest on [I'll insulate it and protect it, of course] the bigger heatsink. I'll make a cut in the back of the top part of the lid, I'm good there. At this point I think it will be safe to say that all of the parts will go in [She'll be a tight tight squeeze].

It's a bit disheartening to find out that I'm not the first to complete this sort of mod, leaving mine unoriginal. However, making the first NESXBOX with a CD-Drive is a strong point after finding that the creator of X-Tendo didn't switch to using a Laptop Hard-Drive. Also, I came to realize the X-Tendo must output quite a bit of heat because of the bigger HDD use, where as my Laptop Hard-Drive wont even phase a heating problem, another good thing to know.

Another thing, I got the Motherboard seated in correctly this afternoon, so everyone should check back regulary to the album posted above for updated pics and such. Everything is going great and I've already mapped out where everything will go, let's just hope I'm right.

Ok, Lemmie know if this is a dumb idea, but couldnt you put 2 xbox controler ports on top of each other and use the original NES ports.

Not a very good example, but something like that?

No, I won't say thats a dumb idea, thats wouldn't be a bad idea in fact. But also, it wouldn't work, the ports are too wide even when one is by itself and if it were turned sideways, it could work, but then you have to worry about the other two. If you notice in my pictures, I had to cut away the holes where the controller ports previously existed on the bottom part of the NES case.

Great idea, man.

BIG BIG Update!

I have finished the top part of the NES case with the drive mounted in. Here is a video showing the drive working. I have a spring mounted next to the drive that is connected to a wire, and the wire goes to the door, so it gives a small tug on the door when the drive try goes back in, pulling the door shut. :)

Since the Video I uploaded was an .mov file, you will of course need Quicktime to view it.

y.

where are you going to mount the Power/Eject board, and are you going to use the origional (xbox) buttons for them? It would be kind of cool if you used some buttons from the NES for those... Maybe A and B from the controller?

Just a thought :)

BTW, I like those lights that you've got there :)
