network help

hey i bought a network card installed it in my computer and directly connected my xbox to my comp. then the netwrok card says limite or no connectivity. i uninstalled and reinstalled the netwrok card and it still says the same thing.it said this problem has occured beacause the network didnt assign a network to the computer.

can someone please help me out.thanx

well if your connecting the xbox directly into the back of the pc u need a "crossovercable" and u MUST assign static ip's to both the xbox and the pc... for example...

setup the xbox to something like this...

ipaddress = 192.168.1.5
subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
default gateway = 192.168.1.1
(dns server dont matter)

then setup your pc's network card to this...

ip address = 192.168.1.4
subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
default gateway = 192.168.1.1
(dns server dont matter)

once u do this the xbox and pc WILL communicate through ftp to each other.

im not trying to ftp though im trying to flash my chip i got a connection thanx to what u said but when i type in the xbox p its asking if i want to dial up

In IE go to tools/Internet options

select the connections tab and select dial whenever a network connection is not present.

i probably need to turn off the dhcp cuz ive read alot of forums about ther peoples netwrok problems and lots say to disable DHCP, but a problem for me is dk what DHCP is and how to disable it so please help me out.

nah! DHCP runs from a device such as a router...u have a point to point connection between xbox and pc ..ther is no dhcp.
ThaCrip talked u through setting it up with static addresses

ok well i did exactly what thacrip sayed and now i have a connection but i cant flash my chip and my settings were already what you told me to set them to so idk what to do now

just re-read your post...your trying to flash right...change you ip address to 192.168.0.5
same net mask
default gateway 192.168.0.1...

boot xbox flashbios and select flash via network..
wait for network to time out about 30-40 secs then http to the address
192.168.0.99

well if your trying to flash your modchip use the HTTP through your webbrowser just type in the ip address and it should come up if everything is setup properly.

i always used http to flash a X3 modchip.

just re-read your post...your trying to flash right...change you ip address to 192.168.0.5
same net mask
default gateway 192.168.0.1...

boot xbox flashbios and select flash via network..

i did that ping thing and it said packets sent=4 recieved=0 (100% loss)

set your network to 192.168.0.5 boot flashbiios...select network flashing and wait for it to time out trying to contact DHCP..it will fall back to 192.168.0.99
then http to that address

and after leaving xbox flashbios to time out to 192.168.0.99 can u ping that address too?

do u have a firewall..or proxy enabled..if so disable them temporarily

lets go thru this again as u should be able to ping yourself..
assumimg win xp

start/control panel/network connection
right click on local area network and select properties
double click on internet protocol (TCP/IP)
ip address 192.168.0.5
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.0.1
the click ok and reboot..
disable firewall and ping yourself again 192.168.0.5 u should get a reply..once thats right u should reach the xbox on 192.168.0.99

ok now its working and ive flashed it but how do i know that its flashed? nothing is different

now i think ive really screwed up i try to turn on my xbox in bank1 mode with the ower button tries to start up twice then frags, then i try the eject button sometime its the xbox dash some times t tries to sart up twice then frags. so i ty to start up in bank 0 and it boots up like normal?

im really lost please help i think i flashed it with the wrong bin or somthing

sounds like u flashed it with flashbios and not a hacked x3 bios..u need to get it from xbins
search the forums for how to d/l from xbins
