Hi

I am having problems setting my network up between xbox and pc,

my settings for pc are:

Ip: 192.168.0.1

subnet: 255.255.255.0

gateway: 192.168.0.4

Xbox settings are:

Ip: 192.168.0.4

subnet: 255.255.255.0

gateway: 192.168.0.1

tryed pinging 192.168.0.4 but I get request timed out.

turned all my firewalls off, i have made sure its a crossover cable by looking at the wires and they are not the same pattern.

On Windows Xp

thx for help

You're CERTAIN its a crossover cable? Got "LINK" lights on the PC and XBOX NICs, yes?
Nip to a command prompt on yer PC and do (I'm guessing you got WinXP):
IPCONFIG /ALL
and cut and paste it to the forum. Might help with diagnostics.

Yeah, check to see that you have a crossover cable and not a roll over.

From left to right looking at the terminator with the "clip" facing away from you the pattern should be:

Side one
White Orange
Orange
White Green
Blue
White Blue
Green
White Brown
Brown

Side Two
White Green
Green
White Orange
Blue
White Blue
Orange
White Brown
Brown

What is the color pattern of the wires on both sides of the cable?

Take a look at this...

http://www.codeproject.com/system/ethernet_colors.asp

Just make sure you have a crossover cable. Just because the colors are different on the ends doesn't mean they're correct. Also, try removing the gateway IP from the xbox. As long as both devices are on the same subnet (which they are, with the IP addresses/subnet masks you list) then it won't need a gateway anyway.

I think a little more info is needed.
What chip do you have?
What dashboard are you using to FTP?
What are your dashboard configuration settings?

I don't suggest using a crossover cable. It's a little sketchy. Sometimes windowsXP has networking problems. I would just plug both of them into a router and do DHCP. It makes things much easier. When I try doing crossover my PC won't assign itself an address and I cant set it up manually. So try a router.

This is going nowhere fast! We keep asking for information to help you and our requests are being ignored.
What ever happened to this?
Nip to a command prompt on yer PC and do (I'm guessing you got WinXP):
IPCONFIG /ALL
and cut and paste it to the forum. Might help with diagnostics.
And this?

There isn't really anything "sketchy" with cross-over cables. They just manually switch the send and recieve wires like a hub/switch/router would do internally.

You probably have your computer set up to get an IP from your router via DHCP. So if it isn't connected to your router you won't get an IP.

If Windows won't let you set an IP manually you probably don't have admin rights to your machine.

Hope that helps! :)
