networking frustration

I have an xbox v1.6. Installed the Xecuter3 chip. Flashed the appropriate bios. And loaded the Evolution dashboard. Now I am stuck at networking. Yes, I have read the stickies. I have also read many other sites on networking. Yet, i still cannot seem to get FlashFXP to connect to my Xbox.
I am connecting with a crossover cable. Tried to manually set the IP address. Tried to let the computer assign it automatically. yet it does not work. Even on the Evolution network settings I do not get an IP listed. Help me before I go crazy and smash this xbox into a million tiny pieces.

In the stickie by Xecuter it says to set StaticIP=No if using a crossover cable. So I am really confused now. Maybe someone needs to fix this in the Stickie ?

dont be confused... give it a shot first and let me know what happends... cause i did this before so i know it works.

like i say u definately want DHCP = DISABLED ... cause otherwise it will try to automatically get a ip address for your xbox which it cant do since there is no DHCP server running... only routers would u want the DHCP enabled.

Evox.ini

Also, does the Evox.ini, on the DVD-R that I burned of the Evolution-x dashboard, need to be set StaticIP=Yes, in order for it to work. Or can I change it manually in the dashboard menu and still have it work? (Regardless of how the DVD-R Evox.ini is configured?)

u can try changeing it in the menu but if i recall correctly... it wont take effect til u reboot the xbox... but u can try it... if it dont work...

remake the evox bootable cd-rw/dvd yourself after reconfiguring the evox.ini settings manually on your pc.

but u got a X3 chip u can always try using that things ftp (through the "config live") as this u can configure (i think) without having to make any bootable cd's etc... then just readjust the pc's network card to the way the x3's static ip etc is setup.

p.s. since i dont have a x3 sitting in front of me u will have to navigate through the menu's and adjust the stuff yourself... all i have is a x3.1959 pdf file that shows the x3 screens in that... only x3 i did before was my cousins xbox... i got a older xecuter chip myself.

Eureka!

I did get the FTP connect to work via X3 bios! Can I copy the contents of the HD with the X3 bios?

If not I will probably have to burn another DVD-R with the StaticIP=Yes in order for Evolution-x to work properly.

yeah if u can ftp into the x3 config live (basically the x3 bios) then u can copy anything u want to ... to and from the xbox.

basically what u want to do (as u may already know) is backup the original xbox hdd to the PC ... mainly the C and E partitions is the main thing, the rest dont matter.

Duherr!

I just realized, if I can connect via IP, no matter which way, I can still transfer the contents! I am a bit slow sometimes. Wow, what a painful process to experience. At least I learned about networking, so it was worth the effort just for the gained knowledge.

yeah i learned alot of stuff about networking just by screwing with it and learning it (along with some help here and there) ;)
