I have the x3 installed with bios build 1959. When I turn it on everything seems to work fine. I go to settings, network setup, and enable DHCP. Then I connect it to my pc with a crossover cable. When I plug it in I get an 0.0.0.0 Err X on the TV screen. Can anyone help me with this?

well more than likey you arent running a DHCP server on your computer.

so

set your IP on your computer to something like 192.168.1.50
set your IP on your xbox to be something like 192.168.1.55

subnet - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 192.168.1.1

dns doesnt matter what you put because you arent online with it anyways

they should talk then.

but if you have broadband, do yourself a favor and get a $50 linksys router with 4 point switch. it has a DHCP server built in and then your box can be online as well. so then all your settings can come off your router and everything will be ducky.

Dito on the Router, you can catch them on sale or after rebate for about $20. This will also add some security your home network, if the router has a built in firewall, and most do. This will also allow you to connect to the net using your xbox without your PC being on.

With a router can I use Xlink though? Or is there a way to run a dhcp on my computer?

with router... you can use Xlink.

You in windows XP? Even if your not... this should work. run the networking wizzard... Setup network.. and allow sharing. It'll put your computers IP to "192.168.0.1" And then DHCP should be enabled. If it still doesn't work....

Go manually add your IP. Add it to somehting like "192.168.0.105" or some other # at the end... then see if it's networked.

I myself, don't use a router...

I got two internet connections. 1 going into my main PC, and I got a crosslink setup like above. I then have another ISP on my second computer (Also have it plugged into a hub... along with my third computer)

I know it's a bit more messy, and complex... and a router could do all this as easy as... pushing in a wire. I just... have this thing against routers, and their firewalls.... If your stupid enough to get hit by a worm... or dont run a personal firewall... then.. you deserve it... I like managing my own network... No wizzards... no auto config... my own settings, n I believe thats most secure.
