Ed made the mistake of asking 'who is Copperhead?' in response to the news this morning that another assassin has joined the cast of Batman: Arkham Origins. Cue puzzled looks all round as I attempted to provide an abridged explanation. Copperhead has something of a - complex history. He began his criminal career as a contortionist in a snake suit, graduating from petty theft to mass murder when he decided to become a master assassin. Then he made a bargain with the demon Neron, trading in his snake suit for something more permanent and becoming a half-man, half-snake serial killer. Then, he died, to be later revived as a member of the Black Lantern Corp. With me so far?

Good, because now, he is a she - Copperhead has been reimagined as a woman and is set to make an appearance in Batman: Arkham Origins, announced last night at San Diego Comic Con. Catch her at work in the trailer below, which manages to sneak in a reference to the gender-bending change. DC apparently like the new look so much, they're planning to work it into the New 52.

According to a report on Polygon, WB Games Montreal's Eric Holmes revealed during the SDCC panel that no less than three performers were required to motion capture the action seen in the trailer, including a trained martial artist and a Cirque du Soleil acrobat.
During the panel, fans also got the chance to ask Holmes questions (via Newsarama). One audience member brought up the possibility of Boy Wonder Robin making an appearance. "Robin doesn't exist in this point of the timeline. There is no Robin yet," Holmes told them. "As for Batgirl, you'll have to play the game to find out."
Twist! What do you think of Copperhead's new look? Mind you, if WB Games are looking for more female assassins, I can think of one character I'd like to see make an appearance.
