GENERAL new ben q drive

first off this is my first post so hello sorry if this is in the wrong place, but seen as it does involve flashing i think its ok. now ive got a problem i hope someone can help me fix coz im tired and have come to the end of my teather lol.

i had a hiatchi drive flashed by a mate with years of experience in doing this with the latest lt+ firmware (1.91?) and then all off a sudden it stopped playing games and instead came up with play dvd even with my original games. everything i searched for pointed to it been the drive/laser so i bought a new ben q drive and had my mate spoof it as the hitatchi, but still it says play dvd! it wont play any of my back-ups and wont play the originals. ive done everything i can find, wiping the hdd cache, turning it horizontal/vertical but nothing. like i said the original hiatchi drive was working fine then just stopped, and now the spoofed ben q is doing the same so im guessing its got to be summot apart from the drive but i may be wrong. any ideas or help on what it could be please?

Firstly welcome, if I was you I would have tried the cheaper option in changing the laser first as spoofing is now a no go really if you care about live, your play DVD problem did he put the correct key on the drive when spoofing the benq?

im not bothered about live as i dont use it. and yea he put the key from the original hitachi onto it. he has years of experience at flashing xbox's and he was as puzzled at the situation as i was lol. all i can think is it isnt drive releated but some other hardware but im no expert but he agreed. we spent hours trying different things but nothing. thanks anyway, any more ideas?

The Laser could have failed in both units :eek2:

Where did the Benq come from?

Did you see it working before it was flashed and put in your console?

Can your friend flash the Benq to another drive to test it?

These are just a few options but I would personally lean towards a faulty laser :frown:

Lasers are less than £10 (reputable resellers) it's gotta be worth a punt buddy

i supose that it is possible both lasers have gone. and i got it from ebay but from a good rep lol and no i didnt see it working as the xbox had a hiatchi in it so needed flashing. supose the laser option is worth a try, where wud i get a laser from a reputable seller for a hiatchi and ben q from? i live in england, west yorkshire. any other ideas are welcome in the meantime, thanks.

Try ck3.co.uk or modtraders, I had a couple of dodgy lasers off eBay before, or check the trading sites on the forum plenty of respected sellers on there

Try flash 0800 firmware to the Benq and see if it reads games

Good point try 0800, that will or should rule out laser

ok, like i said its a mate that does the flashing for me so whats is 0800 ? ill also have a word with him and see what he says. and yes it plays dvd movies. the dashboard is the latest one. it origanally had a hiatchi drive in it that i had him flash and that worked fine untill acouple of days ago when the play dvd came up, now the ben q does the same. all flashing was done after the dash update. need any more info just ask. thanks and any more ideas so i can get em done all at once lol ?

0800 is firmware for ripping the games to your pc. If it can do that then it rules out the laser.

The first thing you should have tried was to clean the laser. If it is the laser then you'll still have a spare drive for ripping games so not a total loss

lol thanks, and as for wondering where my back ups are coming from, as i said, my mate does all the firmware flashing for me so i dont have a clue what gets put on the drives, just how to run them. and yes i think ill stay away from ebay, but if it did it before on the original hiatchi drive why would it still do it on the ben q? coz the hiatchi played my back ups so it must have had the right drive key, so that means the right drive key shud be on the new ben q drive yeah. couldnt it be some other hardware fault not related to the drive?

Well if your 100% about the key then i think it must be the laser. If you can, try cleaning the laser on both drives.
Or try replacing the laser or try a drive you know is working fine.

yep ive tried cleaning both drive lasers with the fluid from a dvd laser cleaner. have to see if a friend will borrow me there xbox to see if there drive will work in mine and vice versa. this might take acouple of days as i have to work all this week, but ill deffo report back with what the outcome was. thanks again.

i know exactly where there coming from, there coming from the originals i bought. as i said above my mate flashes my drives as he has more experince at it and can do it alot quicker than me, i cud do it but it wud prob take twice as long coz i would have to double check everything coz thats the kind of person i am. and just because i dont flash my own drives doesnt mean i dont know how to rip a game. all i know is i use a drive to rip mine, to be honest i couldnt care less if it was called 0800 or 118118 if it rips my originals then thats all im bothered about.
