Well... I don't really think that's the case. Microsoft... Whether this is there first console or not... They are the leaders in computers (Not just software... they make some of the best computer supplies) There isn't much to be learned.... I mean, all the different boards they are making... It's not like each has a new scheme for blocking modchips. The newest version 1.6.... Sure they made it a bit difficult... but not by much. First... they tried to just solder in the holes... And they don't even do that because they seen it doesn't change much...manu_xl said:

Sony doesnt stop modchip people either... It's not because they're wanting to find out ways to prevent it... it's because it's not worth the effort.... Even if they took down the IRC chan... 100 more would pop up.... and 100 different ways would pop up. It's like... the MPAA trying to stop movies from hitting the net... It's just not ever going to happen....
Theres no doubt that a Bios is illegal...But as microsoft knows... It's more of a pain to pursue it, then it is to just let it be. Besides... they sure as hell have enough money.... I'm sure the 5-10% proffit they could possibly be losing... isnt even on there minds. Course they're not going to just be stupid... let it be so easy to mod.... I'm sure they will keep coming up with ways to prevent it. But hey... one thing I thought of... Wouldn't it be harder for us to mod... if they just painted the whole board black?
Trying to find the tiny small holes and everything...Just... I'm sure there are ways they could prevent it easily. Speaking of which - Are xbox's made by hand? One xbox I opened... brand new, not refurbished...had felt pen onit. didnt read wut it said, just looked like #'s....
Some good points, but I disagree with some parts...
The most recent revision was made due to pressure from games companies to reduce piracy, so they changed the board layout slightly.... but since they are learning from the methods that the (hackers?) modchip developers develop, they wouldn't want to make it too difficult to hack.
The Xbox may be being used as a global beta for the xbox2 and by watching the hackers and allowing them to work, they can make the xbox2 unbreakable (or so they think )

Playstation modchips were? I'm not sure how illegal they are in America. When I was looking to get my xbox modchip... figured I'd buy one from the local paper... NO paper I found had a modchip listed... Back in Canada (where I'm from) 90% of the classified adds is selling modchips.... I guess it depends on the country
EVERY company thinks they can make a system "unbreakable". Look at these flawless new Audio CDs which are "unhackable" You hold down one key on your keyboard... and guess what? Easier to copy then a regular CD! No matter how much microsoft tries... they will never, ever make an unbreakable one... While there methods and technologies get upgraded, So do the scenes... I'm sure it wouldn't be fun, if they did not try though....
As for them changing the layout... It's not like it did anything... Anyone with knowledge of electronics could most likely figure out what they did... And do a wire install... and the PCB board only costed like 1 cent to make... But whatever keeps them happy, I guess
Nothing will ever be un breakable. Look at gamecube even.... Just... doesnt matter Who cares - What pees me off, is when companies cripple there products to try to make them unbreakable... These new audio cds dont work in half the players. Companies are more concerned over selling value, then product nowadays...
I play 1 game on my xbox.. Ghost recon 2. I use the rest to watch DivX... movies and stuff. Sure that might change when I get back home.. but having a networked DVD player = The best use for an xbox. Now I can watch any movie I want... off my PC hd, without having to burn it, ect. I hated using video out... this is small, portable... Can bring like 50 movies on me every trip I go... Hell... I can even use it as a computer. It's good for vacations and everything... IMO, Modchips have made Xbox's better, giving them more capabilites. And I'm not talking about the capabilities of "Copying games". It's a small... pretty damn good computer, if I may say so. That part alone has probably trippled the Xbox sales.... Now... Microsoft may have to try to stop piracy because of software companies... I doubt they make muc money off the games, anyways. But I'm sure they gain a lot more profit from us users who have modchips.... As read from xbox-scene... Xbox is the only console which has ever went up for a year consecutivly, selling more and more systems each month. I don't think it's because of the game play alone... I think everyone loves what features X3 and ect give them If this was just another game system... I wouldn't have 1, let alone 3 xbox's....

It's officially the weekend... Works ended... no more work/school till monday. I WANT MY BIOS Haha... It's fun to immitate people. Still waiting anxiously for it, but I'm in no rush. I just want something to occupy my time.. .while dealing with this world we call "life'" -_-

LOL I did a little research myself and I am well aware of the release attempted just before Xmas! So before you go making assumptions because I didn't repeat what is already well known, maybe you should rethink your FACTS. Mainly because on the main page it clearly says they are having issues with only ONE feature, not the whole thing. It also says they may scrap the feature and release what they have, so a delay is VERY unlikely. I was asking Xecuter, or somebody who would know something official to see how things are going, that's all. If you don't know for sure, you should say so, not give a definite answer based on what you think. So in closing, thanks for trying AGAIN.

(Not a rush thread) On vacation.. to where my G/f attends college... and she's being a.. *Ahem* Right now... so I'm stuck at my hotel day and night... till wednesday when she gets back from her visit home... Been sititng here for 4 days doing nothing... but posting on these forums, waiting for the release Need something to occupy my time... Although I'm sure the bios will only do that for 5 mins, then it's back to Ghost recon 2

Does it matter? January was the promised (?) time period ... not last weekend. The 1959 BIOS works - no significant bugs - no promised features not delivered ... so whats your problem?eight_heads said:
