new dash update

hello, i have an unbanned xbox 360 that hasnt had connection in awhile, and its on the old dashboard, i want to update it but im afraid of getting banned

What dashboard are you on and why are you afraid of getting banned?

im on the old 2010 dash and i dunno if i can upgrade it to the new shiny metro dashboard and still play online

If your drive is flash then revert it to stock firmware, update dashboard, then reflash with newest firmware.
