Its been a while since i have done anything with any Xbox's. And wasnt sure where to post this but long story short, DVD drive got stuffed with a bunch of peanut butter and jelly and was essentially thrown out. If i retrieve the code from the MB can i write it on to a new DVD board or will i need an unlocked one.

Is your console phat or slim?

If it's phat, you just need to use the Reset Glitch Hack to retrieve the drive key and then you can build a new firmware to write to a replacement drive of the same model.

If the console is slim, you can use an LTU / LTU2 PCB (if you can find one) and use C-R.bin and Key.bin from the decrypted NAND image to build a working drive firmware for it.

Alternatively, you can leave the console as RGH and flash any replacement drive with a firmware containing the correct drive key and it will work just fine (you still need to use LT+ firmware if you want to play backups of your original game discs).
