New EEPROM - not booting

Oh Hi Ho
Hello everyone! I'd like some help with a problem I'm having.

My friend and I both modchipped our XBoxes (Xecuter 3-great chip) and we then ordered larger hard drives in order to have...more fun with them. Anyway, he had already been on XBox live with his old hard drive, so he had to buy a new EEPROM because of the HD/EEPROM marriage on XBox Live.
We got the new EEPROM and FTPed it to his XBox. Then we went into Config Magic and unlocked his hard drive, loaded the EEPROM from the .bin file, and then locked the hard drive again. This is where we though that we would be done.
However, when we hooked up the new hard drive, the XBox didn't boot correctly. The external switch for the X3 showed a red light (as if it were booting disabled) and then switched to blue after a few seconds. We couldn't open the DVD Drive with the eject button, and there was no video or audio displayed on the television.
His XBox (the broken one) is a 1.6, and mine is a 1.6b. Both are modded with the X3 chip, and I am willing to open mine up in order to help if I need to (install my chip in his XBox or something).

Thanks for any help you can offer, we would really like to solve this problem!

I am having this exact same problem after doing my new EEPROM. You can't restore from the EEPROM from the X3 BIOS because the X3 won't ever even boot or come up on the screen. Basically I have a completely dead XBox that I have no idea what to do with.

Ok, found another thread where someone was having the same prob. On page 3 of the thread, check out this post:

http://www.teamxecuter.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=146215#146215

I can get FlashBIOS 3.0.1 to boot if I turn on switch 2 on the X3 front panel switch. I can't compile the unauthorized 3.0.1 FlashBIOS that can flash the EEPROM right now because I don't have a Linux machine installed here at home. I do have a backup of my original EEPROM, so tomorrow at work I will get on one of our Red Hat boxes and try what is outlined in that thread post.

I will report back once I try it.

Make sure config magic is recognizing your xbox as a 1.6. If it isn't, you need to change the .ini file to force it to see it as a 1.1-1.6 by uncommenting the version line and changeing it to 1.1. You might have a 1.0 EEPROM which is incompatible with 1.1-1.6 xboxes.

i restored another eeprom on my 1.6 xbox after changing the hdd and already been signed up to live...

used the x3 bios function to do this (eeprom restore)...and also format and lock the hdd

I have never used config magic to do anything...

worked like a charm so anybody saying that its not working its just plain BS!!!

Well, you got a v1.1 EEPROM, if you had a 1.0 EEPROM, you would have had problems. Only 1.0 xboxes work with 1.0 EEPROMS, and all the other version xboxes (1.1-1.6) only work with v1.1 EEPROMS. If you accidently get the wrong version, change the config magic .ini file to force it to recognize your EEPROM as either 1.0 (for 1.0 xboxes) or 1.1 (for 1.1-1.6 xboxes) and restore a backup of your EEPROM with config magic.

Ok well I put my backup of my original EEPROM into the FlashBios.c file. I then compiled the "unauthorized" FlashBIOS 3.0.1 on RedHat 9. Copied it over to my PC, made a FlashBIOS disc with it on it and flashed the 1MB bank 1 with the new bios. booted to that BIOS, unlocked my harddrive. flashed the EEPROM, power cycled the XBOX, locked my harddrive. Everything seemed to be working ok at this point. I can boot to either bank 1 or bank 2 (both 1MB). I can also boot to MSDASH. WOOHOO! So then I boot to bank 2, flash bank 1 with X3_1959, it won't boot to the 1959 bios. It does the same thing it was doing before, it starts out blue, turns off...starts up by itself again, turns blue, turns off....starts up by itself _again_, turns blue, FRAGs.

Any suggestions?

Ok, everything is working now! Ignore my previous post about FRAGing, I had been flashing 1959 with a disc I made when I worked on a friend's 1.4 xbox....oops! Cause that disc had the 1.0-1.5 version of 1959. Made a new disc with 1959 _1.6 PLUS_ on it and flashed it and it worked like a charm.

So, the process is a little long to recover from a bad EEPROM flash, and hopefully you have a backup of your original EEPROM, but it can be fixed!

Thanks all!

Modern Warfare 2 patch arrives March 8, 'to address hacking'

It appears that whatever Sony did to mitigate security issues in its most recent PlayStation 3 patch has enabled Infinity Ward to address its "unplayable" version of Modern Warfare 2. Creative strategist Robert Bowling announced on Twitter that a patch "will release on PlayStation 3 worldwide on March 8," with an Xbox 360 and PC release following at some point. The patch, Bowling said, is specifically intended "to address hacking."

Bowling detailed the process on the Infinty Ward forums, having updated his original post about the PS3 situation as new information was available from IW while staying intentionally light on details, "as we don't want to give out any information that could potentially hinder the security any further." He additionally noted that the patch "will also address a small geo exploit on the map Fuel, which players exploited in order to get inside a rock on the outskirts of the map." Apparently some players were ... rocking that exploit real hard.
