If I just want to play game backups and not store them on my HD, do I need to replace or unlock the stock hd?

no you just need a dvd drive in ur xbox that will play dvd-r or dvd-RW cos some dvd drives that come with xbox only read some types of discs

Ahh ok. I know it can read CD-RW discs (without the modchip) but I haven't tried the DVD's yet. (I still have to install it.) It's a 1.6 box w/ a Philips drive.

360 case mod led help

I'm modding my 360 case for the first time. i thought it would be a cool but simple idea to project the 360 ring of light in the front of the case to the side, scaling and enlarging it.
problem is, i honestly don't know how i could hook it up to project the same image as the 360 rol in a blue color insead of green. i will try to post photos later, but i am at school right now.. any help or ideas would be appreciated

thanks,
VirtuaLIntel

Edit- what im trying to do is essentially add another "ring of lights" on the side, making it the size shown in the pictures.. i have gotten everything done except for those lights as you can see (and the window of course)... i would like to know how i could achieve this.. i want the rings to be blue with the center bright red...

I would love it if you could just tell me the parts i need (preferably not premade kits from internet--want to get experience also) hopefully i could get them at a local radioshack, but if impossible, i could order them.

ps... this is also my FIRST case mod. im happy with the results...

thanks,
VirtuaLIntel

Re: 360 case mod led help

I am still unsure what you want to do. Maybe a couple more details.

Re: 360 case mod led help

Okay, I see what you want. In my opinion I really dont see you getting good results on making your own led boards from the shack. Their leds are cheap. I would recommend either getting cold cathodes from xoxide.com or getting this flexible led tube.I forgett what it is called but you can get it at any xbox 360 mod shop. I am a fan of the two shade paint though. :) and the clean cut

Re: 360 case mod led help

thanks, it was also my first time in a long time to use spray paint, and my first time painting plastic. Also, any suggestions for a logo or something for the center circle where the red led's and plexiglass window would be? I kinda ran out of my creative designs. :p Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Re: 360 case mod led help

well from your colors you choose I would recomend a gears sign. Would be a good idea considering gears 3 is coming out. Or you can just do the good old xbox 360 power button decal. You can see it in the background of this website page. It is light green, but I would make it red.

Re: 360 case mod led help

What you need is a pulse vu chip to make the leds fade in the box.

Here is a photo of xbox 360 12v power source on the board. I would recommend using this: http://www.ledlightingandmods.com/content.php?152-Xbox-360-12v-power-source-for-leds

let me know if you have other questions.
