some feedback.
about me: my first modchip install, no soldering experience, plenty of experience opening computers etc. i wanted the modchip because i wanted to use the xbox for emulated games, potentially overseas games, region free dvd. i dont use pirate games. i have a 1.6 version console.
basically everything went fine, here are some minor quibles. maybe obvious to experts but anyway:
from the v1.6 install tutorial:
- the blue wires pictured for the wire soldering were not included in my package. they werent included in the pictured list of items either. this troubled me for a bit because you explicitly said everything was included.
- the 5v wire: you describe the soldering but dont mention it has to be attached to the chip. in the photo of "how it should all look" at the end it is not present.
- because it was my first soldering i spent quite some time soldering the pinhead in... whilst that happened the electrical tape (used to hold it in place) melted over the pinhead! i suppose i took longer than usual to do it and the pins got quite hot by the end. beginners risk i suppose.
- not knowing anything about modchips, it took me a while to realise that the hardware install was only half the process. for a while i thought that "flashbios" was what the end product should be ... i know (now) there are legal issues involved but it would have saved me a lot of time if i knew what the "end result" should be right from the start ... remember never having used a modchip before i didnt know what to expect.
anyway all is working well now and it is doing what i hoped. one remaing problem: the quicklaunch feature doesnt appear to work for me (hold down the trigger and jump to .. whatever).
