So I just got a 360, it has
-dashboard 2.0.12625.0
-DG-16D4S 0401 drive.

From all the researching looks like my drive is locked ?

I was reading through the jungleflasher PDF and it says rare 0225/0401 drives are unlocked....I wouldn't happen to be one of these, how do i check.

If its locked i have to buy some pretty expensive PCB replacements.... or drill some fancy holes...

The drives didnt get locked untill the Update to 13146 so if your console is still on 12625 the drive shouldnt be locked yet.

Also if it was locked the process of unlocking depends on if its an MXIC or a Winbond board. Winbond requires drilling (Kamikazi) or PCB replacement. MXIC has some nice gadgets (Sputnik) out to make unlocking very easy.

I had a hunch the drive wasn't locked reading through the other dashboard updates...

Assuming this isn't locked, what guide should i follow. The jungleflasher isn't too clear on this. If someone could give me a quick break down of what to do next would be much appreciated.

I also have no way to power the drive other than using the xbox itself, and from what i understand that will flag down my system correct?

I'll probably be doing some flashing for a friend as well, so I'm willing to pick up some necessary hardware and split the cost with my friend. I'd still like to keep the costs to a minimum, if there are some DIY solutions.......

pretty sure most 0225/0401 drives are factory locked...be very,very lucky if it wasn't

basic kit would cost about £75 with no pcb mod's probley best to get the modtrader/ck3 bundle kit even thow u dont need some of the items it still works out cheaper buying the kit its £65+post and then a molex power pack £5+post

Also get a cheap molex adaptor for the sake of about £5 of ebay with a cheap usb to sata cable and a sata cable good for riping ur games

mxic = spudnick switch £8+post/ spudnik probe £10+post or relpace whole pcb £39.99+post (all need a bit of soldering too
winbond = rplacement pcb £39.99+post or kamakazi is free (but could brake your drive and you will have to buy a new pcb anyway)

you will have to connect it to jungle flasher with a x360 usb pro and some means of powering the drive E.G molex and ck3 or console

(Edit: Console can shut down after a set time with no dvd drive detected so be aware of this if u use this method)

I've looked over the dashboard updates several versions above mine and they include flashing of the drive firmware for various reasons.

If i'm not mistaken it would be next to impossible for even microsoft to flash the drive if it was "hardware" locked. Following this logic the drive should be unlocked, hopefully.......

You're arguing semantics.

Regardless of it being locked or not, you'll still need an x360USB Pro, an CK3 Mini (or CK3i) to power the drive and either a sputnik probe or replacement PCB depending on what SPI chip you have.

You'll know what SPI you have once you've dumped the dummy.bin. You'll also know if it's locked or not once you vendor intro the drive.

those drives never got flashed by Microsoft at the dash updates, only the previous drives were
of the slims 9504's were updated to 0272 and locked, 0225, 0401 etc were left as is, if they weren't locked they were then
like i said if you're lucky you might have one of these rare unlocked drives

do as Martin suggests , load it up in JF and find out
you still need to get the hardware suggested to do this

Why don't you just plugin update to the latest dash. Then open up your console take out the drive and post it or take it to someone who can flash it for you. The cost then will only be postage snd the cost of flashing. That should cost you no more than £20-30.
Pretty cheap that way. Then all you need to buy is a liteon ihas124 or 224 or 324 or 524 or 624 drive to burn your backups.

If i have this right all i'll need is a power source + USB Pro and i'll be on my way if this is in fact "unlocked"

If this is "locked" i'll need the above plus soldering skills or a new PCB. I have neither, nor am i willing to spend money to get those. This "option" is out of the question.

Hopefully i have described those 2 scenarios correctly so far???

Unless you intend on keeping it at 12625, it makes no difference whatsoever. Is this the case?

URON1000 is wright cheapest way is to get someone else to do it as the usbpro alone is £40-50. Also getting someone else to do it means you dont have to worrie about unlocking it yourself.

Iam almost shure you can not update a console without a dvd drive in it. so to run lt3.0 u need the latest dash on your console. This means updating your console with the drive in it. This will lock the spi status as the dash update is intended to do by microsoft

so if u dont update the consol u can not run lt3.0 and if u do update the console the drive will be locked.

Ok guys i guess I was missing the dash update.... :crazy:

I was under the assumption that the current dash means my drive is not locked, but it also means the current dash won't play the newer 360 games....... I thought I could just flash it the way it is without updating the dash.

Hopfully I got that all right.
I guess i'll be getting the above mentioned tools, update the dash and see if it's still unlocked afterwards ? Sounds about right now?
