Hey, I have just tried to replace my lens for my Samsung Xbox 360 DVD drive. I bought the console in February 2006, and now it's making reading disc errors, scratching disks etc. I have taken out the lens and replaced it with a brand new one and now whenever I put a disc into the 360 nothing happens, it justs says 'Reading' then 'Open Tray', no noises nothing. I placed the old one back in and tried playing a disc again, it made noises and stuff but the same thing happened so now the old one doesn't work at all and neither does my new one. Why won't it work? I know there should be a soldering part on the lens' but I didn't need to take off or attach the new lens on with any solder (there is solder on the new one but not the old one) so maybe that is the problem, but I'm still not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated!

Should a solder point on the new lens that should be removed when installing the lens. Thats how new lens are. If its a refurb or ebay purchase it may be a taken out of another 360 in which it may have been damaged from removal or sender.

I removed the solder but I lost one of the screws that keeps the lens inside the DVD drive (on those two rails) but I had to make sure it works anyway. Put it all back in the 360, started it up, put a disc inside the disc tray and when it closed it just the same thing as before but made slightly violent noises and it just doesn't work. I just have no idea what to do to make it work...

I would but you need to flash the drive and by doing so you can't play online or you will be banned and my PC isn't compatible with the 360 drive so it's not possible.

I think I'm just gonna get it repaired, all this stuff is too much hassle and since I'm getting the Elite in August I will need a 360 in better condition so I can sell it for the most money.

So I sent Microsoft an e-mail to enquire free repair/replacement for my 360. This is what I said:

My Xbox 360 will not play any cd's, this includes games, DVDs etc. I know it is a problem with the disk drive or the lens inside it, the one year warranty has run out (your new 3 year plan only accounts for the 3 red light hardware problem) so since there is no warranty I have opened up the Xbox, replaced the lens and the disk drive still won't read disks. So obviously something must be wrong with the SATA cable and not the power cable for the drive inside the Xbox since the disc tray will still open and close. So now I need it repaired, but considering the circumstances (this problem has occured because of YOUR mistakes making the 360 and I have tried to fix YOUR mistakes by using my own money to replace the lens) I shouldn't have to pay for it to be repaired/replaced. So what do I have to do to get the Xbox 360 repaired for free from you (Microsoft)?

Wow... I think I would clearly know that if it had that problem, the people at Microsoft are f'ing stupid. So now I have to sell a broken 360 on Ebay for less than a quarter of it's retail price and then buy another 360 while I wait for the new one... Goddammit.
