New Switch, SX Pro & Questions!

New to the Switch modding scene (although was heavily into Xbox modding) and was wondering if a few veterans could help me out.

I just recently purchased a hackable switch and the SX Pro kit and am ready to get started. However, I did have a few precautionary questions that I cannot find a solid answer to.

Firstly, my console is on 3.X.X and was wondering if that is a good version to leave it on or if I should update the console to a later firmware, such as 5.X.X something using a game that can provide me that update before running XS OS?

Secondly, once the console is modded and a physical game is inserted, will that cause any problems by trying to update? A better question would be, do certain games require certain software versions to run? I plan on making backups and playing from the internal SD card.

Thirdly, in the SX Pro manual, it recommends the SD card be formatted to exFAT over FAT32, as it is requiredfor game files larger than 3.7GB. It goes on to say that it requires special activation. How can I activate the FAT32 SD without updating to 6.X.X? Will games over 3.7GB not run on exFAT?

Still very confused about these topics. I appreciate anyone answering and helping me out! I’m trying to learn as much as I can before diving in.

Only reason to stay on firmware below 6.1 would be coldboot exploit possibly later. 6.1 runs CFW and would put you at the highest possible firmware version at this time(most playable games).Read about ChoiDujourNX it will need to be used for offline updating which will be needed from now on. Use it to update to 6.1 or any other choice but use the "exfat" version when ask to include sd card update. Without exfat update games over 4gb will have to be split to work but fat32 is consider to be more stable. Learn Emunand it's a great setup. I personally use 6.1 OFW and 6.1 Emunand(on sd card) with SXOS 2.3 beta and have no real issues.

Thanks Slam, I appreciate the response. ChoiDujourNX looks like the way to go, unless I want to wait around until 6.2 is ready. With Emunand, do you need the firmware files for the version you'd like to run? If so, where do I get them?

Also, how do the NAND backups work? If I do a clean backup now, lets say at 4.X.X and update to later version, will the original backup still work?

Yes, as long you use ChoiDujourNX to update and do not boot to OFW, you are still abel to downgrade
But once you boot OFW you will burn efuses and then you can't downgrade
