I know a post like this has been made before but this was before you were told not to update to 6.2.

I have bought a switch aswell as the SD card and SX pro (Which arrived today) and have formatted my 128gb SDXC SD card with exFAT.

When I plug in the SD card it prompts me to perform a system update. (A microSDXC memory card has been inserted, to use this SD card please perform a system update)

Ofcourse I can't do this because this will force the 6.2 update to install.

What can I do to make my newly formated SDXC card work on the 6.1 update.

(The switch is compatible - sn XAJ7000xx)

Answered several times but Ill help as the information I found was vague
Use ChoiDujourNX and Firware update(goggle) and update selecting the "X.XX exfat"(in your case 6.1 exfat) when asked
The "exfat" part is the update for sd cards

How will I be able to boot into a custom firmware without an SD card though

Use a smaller card or just format to fat32 using software or
Using original firmware insert card in switch then format using settings.
This will make the card readable for Switch
Reformat after you do the update with ChoiDujourNX to get exfat

You can use fat32 for just about anything. Some folks prefer it because the exFAT driver is unstable.

If you want to enable exFAT support, you will need to use fat32 to get it going. Assuming your switch can run CFW, you can use choidujourNX to install 6.1 and place a check in the exfat box during install. You can follow the guide here on the forums on how to update a banned switch. The steps are all the same.
In the manual on the front page you can download it states FAT32 only supports files up to 3.7GB and if you want higher (In my case I do, because it will be the main storage for my games), is this still the case or not

I just went through the same process for a new switch on 3.1. All done offline and wifi is not enabled.

1. Format card to Fat32
2. Boot into SX OS Bootloader
3. Backup NAND - transfer files to your PC harddrive when done
4. Enable AutoRCM
5. Install emunand (SX OS 2.3 is what I used).
6. Boot into SX OS and get License request file
7. Plug sd card into PC and activate SX via website and get license file.
8. Plus SD back into switch and boot into emunand.
9. Run Choidoujour and update to 6.1 with exfat support.
10. Once updated, turn off Switch, plus sd into PC and copy contents to hard drive. Reformat SD to exfat and then copy files back to Exfat formatted sd
11. Plug sd back to switch and voila!

it’ll be an all day project.

Files over 4gb will just have to be split to use on Fat32. Look in forums for information on process.
With exfat you lose some stability but no splitting.
I us exfat and rarely have any issues other than maybe having to reboot once in a while. Still not 100% sure if exfat is the issue though.

arent you supposed to backup your first nand with hekate to avoid the risk of ban ??
im on 6.0.1 and dont have exfat support , just received my sxpro yesterday and havent done my nand backup yet, but from what i been reading your are suppose to do your backup with hekate before using sx... all this to avoid a future ban when restoring your nand.. im i wrong ?
