Hey Guys ! I am new to the world of Xbox 360 , however I do have prior experience with electronics , I repair smart phones for friends as a hobby in my spare time and I do have decent soldering skills. I recently acquired a Xbox 360 Slim from a garbage pile believe it or not. Ive done some research as I know in order to be able to find out what can be done I need to know what hardware components the Slim contains. From what I have seen so far on the net I believe the motherboard in the Slim is the Corona V1. I used these 2 sites as references http://www.consolehacker.co.uk/INFORMATION-1/MODS-MODELS/IDENTIFY-MODEL/SLIM-MODEL and http://team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76989 now according to the console hacker uk ID page my MOBO is the Corona V1 with 250GB HDD ( ID'd by chip on MOBO ) however according to team xecuter ID page my MOBO is the Trinity as the plastic cover on the back where the power supply plugs in says it is using the 135W PSU @ 12V and 10,83A. Also I believe that the DVD Rom in the Slim is the Philips - LiteOn DG-16D4S wit the 0225 Firmware and I used this site as the reference http://www.360drives.com/list . Now the Slim is also missing the Hard Drive , Controllers , Power Cable / Cube ( I dont know what XBOX 360 Slim Uses :( ) and the AV Cables. My question to you is where do I start ? I know obvious things such as get a HDD and the cables but can I just slap any SATA Notebook HDD in there or are the XBOX 360 Slim HDDs console specific ? Once I accomplish that task I would ultimately like to get the Slim to play copied games directly of off the HDD but I would also like to retain the capability of going online without being banned ( Is that a possibility ? ) So im here pretty much to be schooled in the art of modding the slim. Drop some knowledge on me and point me in the right direction please and if possible I would like "NOOBPROOF Instructions" :) Thanks Guys !!!!!!!!!!!!

As Hyperion said first thing is to make sure the hardware is working, especially since it was found on a garbage pile. While it could boot, it is possible that it was a failed Kamikazi hacked xbox. so if it boots, make sure the drive is working also(Ejects and plays games). If it isnt, then you will have to RGH to get the keys, and the fcrt, and the best bet is to install a LTU2 board, which has been discontinued. As for the hard drive any western digital hdd with the right firmware flashed to it will work. As far as homebrew goes, RGH is the only option and if it has a 16MB nand you can install a demon and keep stock capabilities.

Ok so I went to my local GameStop and the guys helped me test the unit. Turns out that the 360 was perfectly fine , it booted up no problem and it reads the games no problem , it even fell off of the counter at one point and hit the ground and i was like "ahh !!! damn it oh well easy come easy go" asi was sure that was it , the GameStop dude picked it up , plugged all the cables back in and it still worked and read the cds fine !!! at that point I decided to name it "BeastBox 360" :D the GameStop dude also told me its the 4GB Xbox 360 Slim so now I am a bit confused as to which version of the Corona board I have. I know that the chip on the motherboard is the HYNIX , most of the MFG dates on all the components inside the 360 have the date of 2011 and all the warranty stickers were untouched. What would be my next step here guys ? is there a bulletproof way to ID the motherborad in this Slim ??? thanks in advance !!!!

The mother board Id chart on this form is pretty solid, but to be 100% open it up and see what's under the hood!!

If you have a way to dump the nand, the easiest way is to tell from the flash config. Also look to see if it has a hana chip. Corona's don't have one. One other way, is to see what fw the dvd drive has printed on it.

The trinity had a 4gb model also, but it had a 4gb mu module that could be disconnected from the motherboard. So there is a posibillity that it is a 4gb trinity. only way to know for certain is to take it apart, and check it out. the easiest way to know is if the nand read header, and the other header where you hook up the I2C wires, and 5/3.3V is also vertical it is a trinity, if 1 is vertical, and one is horizontal it is a carona. Also if it is a trinity, the 4gb module is another board attached to the motherboard, that is removeable. Am glad to hear it works though. As for glitching the console goes, I would get the slim proto, or the new hack, that is supposed to be released soon. you will also need a nand reader/writer(JR-P, Demon, Nand-X). If it is the carona 4gb model, you will need a 4GB R/W kit, and a compatable card reader, and the demon wont work. If you want dual nand(live and rgh), the demon is the way to go.
