Well......
my story so far....
Laid out all my parts and tools, I new this was going to go wrong before I started as my only iron was from a 100000 piece tool kit from Argos.
My first mistake was to pull off the IDE cable from my DVD drive, not realising the connection was not removable like the HD connection.
How ever I managed to push the cable back through the pins and supper glued back the black plastic secure strip.
Now for my big mistake using my iron which had the head the size of a spade, but I was so excited I thought I could manage it.
Managed to get every thing soldered, the work was crap especially round the LPC rebuild.
Stated the box up, the X FRAGED but would boot up in MS-xbox so I knew I must of done something right.
Deep down I knew my soldering was sh*t, so the next day I went to Maplins a brought a better, adjustable iron so I could increase the temp as I personally prefer a hotter iron then what a 30w can provide.
Tried re-solder some points, this time my xbox told me I needed a service.
No other choice but to take everything off and clean the points and go again, this time I did not use the supplied LPC bridge as it was looking slightly rough.
I also notice I had burnt out the LAD0 point slightly, this really pissed me off, I managed to scrape the point with a needle (not the best of tools to do this with, but it was 3 in the morning, had no choice

) in order for the solder to take hold IT WORKED !!!!
So now every thing was soldered back on, clean joints and all.
Turned on the box, still no good so I messed around with the pro dip switch and HAY PRESTO!!! I found out the bios was set to the 1mb bank.
Works a treat!!! all I need now is to flash the bios and find a good dash board and read some more.
So I guess my story is...
. make sure you have half descent tools for the job, best advice get a solder sucker before u start.
. If you have not soldered before then the best tools in the world won't help practice first say on an old radio PCB always making sure the power is off
. And always think before you make that move, triple check you're soldering making sure every wire is in the right position.
