Hi all,
I have a question which I'm sure is a real n00b question, but anyways. I can't find this info anywhere:
Where can I find a change log for the X2 biosses?
I have a 2nd hand xbox, which is modded. I don't know how it was modded though (might be TSOP, but don't know how I can find out for sure) and it has bios version 4980.9 on it. I would like to find out if it is worth the trouble to update my Xbox bios, but then I'll need to find out what the new features are. Also, how risky is upgrading a bios when you have a Tsop?

Hi

You can always get a copy of the changelog history with the latest BIOS release. There's a file called README1ST.TXT which contains the information you need.

Since you have a TSOP flash, updating is VERY risky. Depending on what Xbox you have, you either have 1MB (1.0,1.1) or 256k (1.2-1.5) of space which needs to be filled. Therefore, the highest BIOS you can use is:

1.0/1.1 - X2CL 5035
1.2-1.5 - X2 4983

Since you're already in the 4980's, I wouldn't bother trying to update the BIOS. You could potentially kill the TSOP in trying and for minimum benefit. The ol' saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is totally relevent.

Just to elaborate on the modchip: I have a Xbox version 1.0. I can see on the mainboard that something has been soldered on the "socket position". I haven't come around yet to turning over the mainboard (that seems like a lot of work :p), so I'm not sure what has been soldered on the socket location.

from your explanation, Martin, I can update to 5036, yet it's very risky. Would 5036 be worth it though or is it not that much better than 4980.9?
Just wondering if I'm missing out on some great features :D

Are you sure that you have something soldered in the LPC socket? Not saying it's impossible, but I've never seen a modchip that installs *under* the mainboard. 1.0 Xboxes had the LPC holes filled with solder at the factory... one of the easiest ways to tell if you had a 1.0 box.

And I do have a 1.0 Xbox, so I actually don't have anything soldered. That's final then. No modchip, just a tsop flash. I think I paid too much for my 2nd hand Xbox then, but well it works.
Thanks for clearing that one up!
