I just wanted to confirm that you can use a 7 series board with a 9 series drive. I did this the other day. Just make sure you flash it with 9 series firmware. I used Extreme 1.1 for the 9 series and it worked perfectly.

I only asked about the black sharpie because when you hold it at an angle up against light you see a metallic shimmer to it
Looks like you used to much solder. As ling as you got the key I do not see why you can not spoof it to another PCB board. I have found very fine tipped soldering tips at fry's. Makes a world of difference. If you do not want the old PCB let me know it is very fixable. I recently was able to extract a drive key from a customers failed mod attempt. All pads and trace were torn off. I dumped it using only needles connected to the pins.
