No Bios Screen

Hi All, I just completed my pinheader install for my X3 3.0 version 1.6b, I get the blue enabled X to come on as well as the Red disabled and 256K red/blue, everything seems to be ok except I get no bios screen, the screen is black. Does this mean that there is no bois loaded and I have to install? Not sure what to do here.

Have you tried both 1MB banks?
Are you using the original AV cables?

Some banks work, off, off, off, off, off does not work but when I change to off, off, off, on, off the bios screen comes up. When I hit the power button the X lights up blue, when I hold power in the X lights up Red and it disables the chip and when both power and eject lights up both red and blue. Yes I am using origional AV cables.

So it's working then!!

Read the tutorials. Boot from Bank 5678 1024k. Once in FlashBIOS, set switches to boot from 1234 1024k and flash that bank.

Do NOT flash over banks 5678 as this is your working copy of FlashBIOS.

Like I said, bank settings are all in the tutorials - it was already suggested you try both 1MB Banks.

In order to make the Xecuter 2.6 / 3 work, you need both 3.3v and 5v supplies connected. If you currently just have the 5v light, then as I already said you need to check pin 15.

ok Martin thanx, I have a guide of the pinheader install that I followed but does not have #'s on it. Can you please tell me where pin 15 is.

You must have a diag with numbers, otherwise you couldn't have removed pin 6. You did remove pin 6, didn't you?
Check the install tutorial on the main page for v1.6s.

Oh I see, but in my instructions it didn't say anything obout the 3.3v installation, I did however solder in the PCB rebuild kit i got. My chip didn't come with a 3.3v wire, same as the 5v i guess but different colour. Is there a different way I could do this without that wire. And yes I removed pin #6.

Are you not understanding this at all?

The reason you have a 5v wire is because the LPC doesn't supply 5v correctly for the X3 (or 2.6), so it gets it from elsewhere. The 3.3v supply from the chip comes from pin 15.

Now, for the last time before I lock this thread - YOU NEED TO RESOLDER PIN 15.

Barely staying patient!! This is all simple stuff - I'd already said that the 3.3v supply comes from pin 15, so wasn't expecting the questions you asked!

If in doubt, check the install tutorials.

correctly setup but can only get a red X on display

i have the 1.6b. is there anything besides the bank settings that's different from the standard 1.6? i have both 5v and 3.3v blue leds and the red unprotected led on the chip but can not boot to bios. with the stock HD i can use the xbox like there was no chip in at all, but i've tried two other drives and it just frags. any ideas are appreciated.

If it's fragging when you boot with the chip enabled (reboot x 3), then it's a soldering issue. You won't be able to use another HDD until you've got the X3 BIOS flashed to the chip.

so if i have all lights on the chip, can i assume that the chip is still good? i read a couple of posts that described a similar situation and they were pointing to the yellow tracer on the lpc. i've checked it a dozen times now along with the rest of the solder points but with no luck. can you think of where on the board i should look given i'm getting every light but the blue X on the front display?
