I got a faulty xbox from ebay, as a pet project. It's a version 1.4 or 1.5 and boots through the flubber screen, loads the aXbox splash screen (first prob - there are lots of small green artifacts on this screen). Then Microsoft appears at the bottom of the screen, and it starts to load the Dashboard but doesn't get beyond the background screen (the global net thing)...

I thought it might be a bad bios or dashboard so decided to instal a chip. On opening the console I could see it had a header pin installed so I assume it had been modded at some point. I installed an Xecuter 26CE, thinking that would allow me to boot off a new bios and dash, reformat the hard drive etc.

So the chip instal went ok, and I flashed the chip to 5035 bios successfully. With the chip enabled the console boots through the flubber screen and again to the background for the dash (but still doesnt actually load the dash). If I put in a known good boot disk, (v4 Ultimate Boot CD) then it gets to "executer rox my box screen" and then fades out, but does not boot the disk. In case the DVD drive is faulty I swapped it with one out of a working console which boots this disk just fine. No change.

Not sure where to go from here. I'd be greatful for some ideas.

Thanks DJDOOBY, yep, sorry I should have mentioned that I have tried that as well. I also tried unlocking a known good hard drive and swapping that in, but it just gave me christmas lights...

Thanks for the suggestions :)

No luck yet, I've now tried 3 known good boot disks (slayers, Ultimate 4, and Evox) that boot with the same dvd drive in another console...
