The install of my xecuter3 went textbook. I turned it on and all tests worked great, lights up (I got the front panel switch with it) I get the FlashBIOS 3.0.1 screen, but I have no control of the menus using my controller (it isn't the original but an aftermarket). If I boot to original Xbox all works perfect even the controller.

Is this a guess that the original will work or fact. I don't have the original it was broke so I replaced it. Are there other aftermarket controllers that should work?

Your aftermarket controller should (will) work just fine after you get by the original FlashBios screens and have a Xecuter bios loaded. You may have the same problem getting into X3CL, but that is hard to say.

Just borrow a controller from someone for 30 seconds and flash your bios.

The original will work, though.

Thank You for your help, I bought an XBOX controller and it works. My next problem seems to be with my Thompson drive. I created an ISO with the bios.bin file on it and burned it using nero 6 to a cdrw (tried two different brands) but my xbox won't read it.

I have seen issues with the older Thompson drives reading cdrw discs. You can try a different brand of cdrw or even a dvd-r. Here is a link to a post about media http://www.teamxecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24003&highlight=cdrw. You can also flash over the net by enabling net flashing and the typing the ip address into your internet browser address line. The other option is to ftp to your xbox and copy the bios to the hdd. Then you could flash it from the HDD. Hope this helps.

flashing

flashing from your computer is byfar the easiest way. just type in http://<xbox's ip> and then load the page and follow instructions.
