No flashbios? No video - BAD flash?

I have a chip that I cannot flash...it will not boot to the backup FLASHBIOS screen, matter of fact I have no screen at all - and it causes the box to FRAG.

How do I flash this chip? Can I use a programmer like with the X2 chips on an X3 - or is there a method to hotswap and attempt to flash it?

Or do I need to break out my black suit, play TAPS and bury this one?

(I swapped another X3CE chip in its place - it is definately a prob with this chip)

I had the same thing happen. I have 2 chips that I got from another individual that had no flash bios on the main banks. Probably from an attempt to flash the BIOS.

Anyway, currently I have a V1.6a (my personal one) which I have no problems with when my chip is installed. When I put these two in though I cannot boot to any 1MB bank and I get no video from the Backup BIOS. I am going to try the 256K banks and see if by chance there is anything there.

If you make any progress with your, please post and I will do the same.

I did receive some info from a friend though that you can flash to the first 1MB of a X3CE with the latest X2 programmer. I do not know the validity of it, but if it comes to it then I will be trying that.

i think he taking about program called flashx3 not the programer
your x3 may have came with flashbios 3.0.3 on all banks whitch will not work on v1.6 i have had a chip sent to me with flashbios 3.0.3 on all banks and it was new have told supplyer of this so now he checks them before sending out to buyers

- interesting... how did you reflash Flashbios 3.1 to the chip, or did you just send it back ?

Ok, all is well....I ended up hotswapping and got the "bad" one up and going, not sure how the flash got FUBARed still.

It was that simple of a solution - thank goodness I have two V1.6 - both with X3CE in them !
