No Front Panel LED - nOOb question (I already searched)

I already searched and found this (http://www.teamxecuter.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=26826&highlight=led+light)

But...mine is a bit different. When I first installed the chip, and powered it on to check it out, the LED's worked as designed. I put the case back together, and powered it on. No LED's. I took it apart, check my solder joins and all looked well. What I find strange is that it worked until I put the case back together. I check all wires to see if anything broke and everything was good to go.

Any ideas?

EDIT: It even showed the FlashBios screen the first time I powered it on.

You've probably got a bad solder joint that was just barely connected, and when you put everything back together, something jarred the chip and disconnected the joint. Reheat your lpc joints and make sure you've got a good amount of solder and see if she starts working again.

When you say lcds, are you talking about the two on the chip or the light on the switch in the front of the xbox?

Give us a little more info about your symptoms. Does the chip power on at all? Does it boot the MS dash okay?

Just on the front of the xBox. The Blue / Purple / Red LED's.

I'll check my LPC solder joints again...like you said, it was probably a bad joint and it was shaken off.

I'm not 100% sure if I had the two LED's on the chip itself though. Like the other thread, it says that you'll know if there are two lights. I'll have to check that again. It was pretty bright though.

In addition, it does boot to the MS dash fine. For a while there though, it was on a constant reboot trip.

If you have the two leds on the chip light up, then it might not be anything with your solder job. You can unplug the switch with the leds and the power button from the chip. It should boot with the chip enabled. I would try that before messing with the solder. If you unplug everything but the d0/lan/hdd and the alt 5v wire and the chip won't boot, its something with your soldering. If it frags, its probably one of your lpc joints. If it boots to the MS dash, its probably your d0 point.

Yep, a frag is when the xbox boots up and turns off three times, then the power light flashes red and green. (You get no video and no sound)

Just a friendly soldering tip, (no pun intended). If your soldering the small
points around the rebuild PCB this is something that works great. Use your soldering iron to knock off a small solderball. Then take the little ball of solder and place it next to the PCB and hit it with the iron. The solder connection is about as perfect as you can get. Hope this helps with bad solder connections and saves you time and aggravation.

Well I'll be dammed. Per your advice, I disconnected everything but the d0/hdd/lan and the alt5v. It booted right up to the FlashBIOS 3.0.1 screen. So...it's my soldering.

Now, being that I disconnected the reset/eject cable and the external switch cable, does it stand to reason that these pins / connections / etc. are the culprit? Do we have a diagram here showing which pin relates to which component? This way, I won't break a good joint to try to fix these?

Thanks for everyones help!! I really appreciate it!

YAY! I got the LED to work! Can't say exactly what I did (not to sure)...but it's only blue! I'll keep digging!

If you can get it to boot to cromwell, then you've got everything soldered correctly. Now that your switch is lighting up properly, you should be good to go. Good luck getting everything sorted out.
