No green light on CoolRunner (connected to NAND-X only)

I'm trying to flash a CoolRunner that is connected to a NAND-X with the proper cable. This is not connected to the XBOX yet. What is strange on others that I have done successfully - I remember a green light appearing when I connected the USB. However, on 2 of the CoolRunners I don't get any green light - only red. I have checked the switches several times and rebooted several times. The switch is set for PRG so I can program them. I have also made sure the cable from the NAND-X red wire is connected to VCC on the CoolRunner.

I would expect the CoolRunner to look like this image. Then once it's programed - the green light will turn off.

Am I doing something wrong or do I possibly have 2 bad CoolRunners?

Does anyone have any images that show how to diagnose a CoolRunner (using a volt meter Ohm check)?

Does the CoolRunner only show a green light if there is nothing written to it?

thanks,

Are you unable to program the coolrunners? I posted in similar case but was using lpt to program the coolrunners where I had to connect the gnd and 3.3v connections first to the coolrunner then proceeded to connect the remaining ones. After which the coolrunners programmed successfully.

Well I'm having problems trying to JTAG 2 Falcons. I went all back to default on both and everything works fine. So I looked at the CoolRunner. I pulled another CoolRunner that was not opened (from antistatic bag). When I connected this CoolRunner (swtich in PRG) to the NAND-X - I was able to get the green light.

Is there a way to put the CoolRunner back to default like it came from the manufacture?

thanks for your help manwithoutname,

There is no other way but to program the CR board. I had a batch of 5 or 6 two of which did the same to me but as I said earlier. I was still able to program them and use them just fine, except I had to connect the power points 1st at which the CR both lights came up (red & green) then I connected the rest of the pins and it showed fine on Impact after.

I guess in your situation it's harder as the NAND-X CR Programming cable plugs to all points at the same time. My LPT cable was home made hence why it was easy for me to do.

In your Nand
Red light indicates that the CR is getting power, program it from there...
It only blinks Green when you got everything set up and your the console is glitching

Nowhere
when u first plug in a cr to nandx for first time it will have a green light and red light, after programming the green light no longer will light up until its in ur console and trying to glitch.

could be an issue where these particular 2 were programmed for testing purposes at factory and jus not reset??

Thanks everyone!

nofeloniesyet - that's what I was suspecting. This makes complete sence now.

I even tried to create a zero'ed out xsvf file and wrote that using the same above command. Disconnected and reconnected - but still no green light. Guess I'll have to accept it.

So is there any way to confirm the data on the CR is correct and functional other than "Successfully executed file" when using NandPro xsvf: motherboard.xsvf (replacing motherboard)?

Looks like I'll have to check my soldering points on the 2 Falcons I have. Everyone mentions checking this, but what would awesome to have is images that show points you can validate your solder connections without using the solder points directly. I have a volt meter, but haven't found an easy way to check these connections as some are soo small. I would also prefer not to rub/scratch the board to expose the trace just to check the solder connection.

(This can get fustrating as I have JTAG'ed 4 others and everything went fine 1 falcon & 3 jaspers)

if the CR has data on it then the debug light won't come on. I have yet to come across any that weren't blank when I first plugged them in, but re-programming the light comes on when the xsvf is being executed. then you just have to wire it up and see if it's functional.

If you use the xilinx program (Impact) you can read the CR to see what it has on it, but otherwise I'm unsure of how to check the programming on the board.
