Hello,

I have here a GDR-3120L Hitachi 78 dvd drive.
It's my first time with an hitachi drive, they're not that common.
Well after putting it into Mode-B it tells me ' No Hitachi drives were found! '.

I am using a CK3i + VIA6421 + XT adapter and JungleFlasher.0.1.92.Beta(304).

Other info: Drive has not been flashed before.
I have tried with and without drivers.

Refresh the ports with the little button next to where the port drop down box is then the drive should show up. If that does not work use the refresh tab on the right hand side under where the drives are listed

I've tried both.
Refreshing ports recognises drive in JF but the drive is not displayed on the right side (where one would use to dump etc...). I've also tried refreshing on the right side after ModeB is done but it gives me the message at the bottom that no hitachi drives were found.

Do you have your via drivers enabled or disabled? Can you plug it straight in to your pc mobo?

buy a x360usb pro.it's the best option for you!
Man, I knew someone was going to say this. I don't have the money, they are pretty expensive.

I've tried with drivers installed and enabled & with removed and disabled, both give same result. I've also tried plugging it straight into the onboard sata but JF doesn't recognise it at all.

I have a found hitachis can be really stubborn to get recognized after sending mode B.

Try ejecting the drive and closing the drive again, try putting a music cd in as well, for some reason this can make the difference between a drive being recognized or not.

Failing that it can be just a case of hitting that refresh button for 5 mins before it starts to behave, and I'll add that this is with the USBpro.

Yes and I did just that using JF.

I did try ejecting & closing drive, didn't make a difference. I'll try with a cd.

get slax disc and put it in pc drive boot the slax disk when it says spinning up after finding the hit drive @ spinning up message leave power to the drive but reboot pc this time to windows and ur drive will be in mode b . or eject the drive with power to it then pull the power wire from the back on the drive and plug back in mode b that way to. hitachi is only hard if u using gui's to put in mode b without 360usbpro ck3 but slax disc or the power trick will do it thats the way prior to tx hardware and jf combo. good luck. google using slax disc to get hitachi in modeb
may have to go to device mang. and let it search for new divices too after when its looking eject a few times

hmm... will give it a go later.
According to JF modeB is done but no drive found. I will give slax a go.

When Hitachi is in ModeB, that means it is in Windows Mode. Windows will be UNABLE TO SEE THE DRIVE if it is connected to a VIA6421 chipset with NO DRIVERS INSTALLED. That is your problem. Try using onboard. But it is my official recommendation that you get an x360usb pro, it is NOT expensive and it works VERY well.

I always used slax with my VIA back in the day and it worked like a charm. It's an extra step but it works. If you don't want the hassle pick up a x360usb they work wonders and will push out all the messing around. :p

At £40 it is expensive. I did try via6421 with and without drivers aswell as onboard which jf didn't recognise at all. Kept running into problems. Below is what solved my problem.

----

I followed the advice of twisted of using slax. Just incase anyone else has the problem I'll detail exactly what I did to fix the problem.

1. Downloaded Slax 2.1 & Burnt it onto a CDR.
2. Slax 2.1 CDR into pc drive.
3. Shutdown, connected dvd drive sata to onboard sata and dvd power to ck3i. Ck3i usb disconnected and power switched to on.
4. Switched on pc and booted from CD (Slax).
5. When it said spinning disc, I hit eject on ck3i, drive ejected.
6. Bunch of writing, waited for a bit and got to logon screen where I confirmed it was in ModeB by having to click eject twice for the drive to actually eject or close.
7. DVD drive still open, clicked restart button on my pc & took out slax cd from pc drive and hit F8 & disable driver sig.
8. On windows loading screen I repeatedly ejected and closed dvd drive. (dvd drive ref to hitachi).
9. When windows loaded I inserted a legit game.(I used PGR4) and disc loaded, got the insert into console clip.
10. Now drive was detected on right side in Jungle flasher. From here on it's just as usual, read source & save, then flash LT plus. Then I just power cycled twice (on off on off) with tray closed to get off modeB. All done.

Slax did nothing special for you. The key was that you were ejecting and closing the drive while windows was detecting. You could have done this with the scan function in jf and in device manager.

hmm... I did try scanning in JF and device manager which didn't pick up the drive but didn't try open closing whilst scanning. I'll have to try open closing whilst scanning next time if I ever get a hitachi again, I've had enough for now lol. xD

Wow you say at At £40 it is expensive then you don't need to be modding or trying SMH....SMH
