No video after (trying to) replace X360 HDD

Hello,

After managing to get my hands on a WD1600-BEVS (or something like that) 160GB 2,5" hard drive I decided to put it in my Xbox 360, since these are reported to work with it. I read I should use HDDHackr to 'patch' my hard drive to work, and I did so. I dumped the HDSS.bin file and flashed it to my WD hard drive.

All went well until I connected it to my Xbox 360. The Xbox will turn on, but I get no video signal. When I put the 'original' X360 hard drive in it boots up fine. Even after flashing UNDO.BIN back to my WD it still doesn't show video.

What am I doing wrong?

If you're using the HDD with a JTAG why didn't you just format it with the console? JTAG conoles should be able to use any 2.5" HDD of any size.

I do have a JTAG console, however just swapping the drives didn't work either:

Even after flashing UNDO.BIN back to my WD it still doesn't show video.
So it also doesn't give any video when it's flashed back to the original state.

Could you confirm 2 things for me:

1. What dash/freeboot the console had when it was working before you tried the new HDD in it?

2. Is the console working now without a HDD installed, or with the other HDD or even if you flash the original NAND?

The console works fine with the original Xbox 360 HDD, however, when I swap the drives in the HDD enclosure the Xbox 360 won't show any video.
So, no video with WD hard drive, yes video with X360 hard drive.

This means the problem is related to the WD hard drive, but why does it do that? And more importantly, how to make it work?

unless you're using the hard drive in a jtag them you have to use hdd hacker to format it because you need to clone the drive and an original console hard drive

It's a JTAG... so you're saying I don't have to use HDDHackr? Then what could be causing it to do this with the WD hard drive... do I have to format it with FAT32 or something?

As I said before you could use any 2.5" HDD with a JTAG console so there was no need for the HDDHackr in the first place.

As now the HDD doesn't work with the JTAG, you could try formatting the HDD in your PC and then see if it will work the JTAG console again. If it did then format it from the JTAG console.

Okay, tried that. Didn't work. I completely erased all data and then plugged it into the Xbox: doesn't work. Made a fat32 partition on it: doesn't work...
It has to be this drive: as soon as I unplug it again the Xbox 360 boots fine.

Really weird. The exact type number is of the drive is WD1600BEVS-08RS. 5400rpm, FW 08.01G08. In theory it should work doesn't it?

It should, but to be honest the last time I tried swapping HDD's between jtag consoles I ended up with a decent Zephyr with permanent black screen which I couldn't fix cause of not detecting flash controller common message. Same thing happend to the xenon I swapped the HDD with but that one fixed.

I'm guessing you restored the HDD to it's original status before you formatted it in the PC and then tried it on the jtag?

Yes. I did it like this:

Took the WD HDD straight out of a laptop, and tried it in my Xbox 360 --> Nothing
Ran HDDhackr on it --> nothing
Flashed back UNDO.BIN, restoring it to original state --> nothing
Did a complete wipe of the hard drive --> nothing
Made a FAT32 partition on the wiped hard drive --> nothing
Tried it on another Xbox 360 --> same thing, nothing...

Now I don't have a clue what to try next.
