Okay, so I got an X3 chip today (pre-used from someone I know). Got it hooked up with my 1.0 XBox, tried to boot up and it FRAGed. The MS dash and backup BIOS worked fine. Feared it was bad soldering (wouldn't surprise me as I've never soldered before and didn't have the world's best equipment), but read somewhere on this forum that the switch settings could be the cause for some reason.
The switches were set to off-on-on-on-on when it FRAGed. It set the first one to on as well (as suggested on the forum) and it booted up fine with X3 on, except I had no video. (Just heard the flubber sound.) I figured it was due to my RGB cable, so I went on a hunt for the original composite cable and the SCART thingy and got it all hooked up, but it still won't show any video.
What's up?
Do I have to plug the three composite lines directly into the TV? (Can't do that, have to use the SCART on the back.) Or is there another problem? Maybe I need to flash the BIOS or something. Seeing as how it was used on another XBox (same version, but possibly with a new HD), maybe the BIOS has some settings that don't work with mine?
Another somewhat weird thing is that the backup BIOS gives me something about "read only", but I can't read it all as it's only displayed briefly before the menu and all comes up. ("Flash BIOS", etc.) According to the picture in the installation guide, the flash protection is off.
Do I have to resolder the LCD again? Ugh.. I certainly don't hope so, but if I do - how exactly is it supposed to look with the wire install? Are the wires supposed to stick out of the other side of the board, or do I cover the whole thing with solder all up to the isolation? A photo of a proper wire install would be extremely helpful
Thanks in advance!
