Here's the deal.. I originally had problems with a few games freezing up and decided to look around here and found some useful info... I decided to check my bios to see my version and found that I had 3.0.1 with 1959 for x3config live. I wanted to put 3.0.3 and the newest x3 config. I went ahead and took apart the box to double check what ver box i had.. which turns out to be 1.6.. not a 1.6b.. i also had to turn off the flash protection on the chip. I also noticed the chip seemed a little loose (I dont think thats normal). But it wouldnt push down all the way..
So I put everything back together and everything is still fine, and then i boot to the backup bios to flash. Well, I wanted to flash with the 1mb. The person that installed my mod used the full 2mb (all off). So I tried flashing w/ 3.0.3 and then rebooted and now I am getting a FRAG.
I know I probably jacked the bios.. my confusion is around 3.0.3 flashing and the newest x3 config.. do they both live on the chip?
Other than that, what are my options? Flash by CD? Flash from another xbox? :(
I saw something about Slayer's CD, but since I do not get a bios, is that even an option for me now?
NE help is appreciated...

Dang noob's..

A few more questions:
Where did you flash the flashbios to? to the Backup spot?
Do you realise the only thing 3.0.x was designed to do was flash a REAL bios? To update from one that worked for you to 3.0.3 was basically a useless process.
Which 2913 file did you use?
What happens when you try and boot the backup bios? (holding the power & eject buttons to boot)

I am guessing I did it to the backup..
The switches were originally set to all off. So I booted to backup (both power and eject) and got the blue screen. I did the network flash. It said on the screen that I had 3.0.1.
I switched it to on, on, off, off, off, based on what the tutorial said.
I didnt get a chance to flash with the 2913. I would have to see what file I have (not at that computer now). Got it off xbins..
So what your saying is that the 3.0.x is actually used to flash to 1959 (or 2913)?
Right now it boots to a black screen on the backup (switched to all off, or on, on, off, off, off), and it does a FRAG when booting with chip enabled.

Did you rename the file from X3 2913 v16plus.bin to BIOS.bin? I have found you have to when flashing on the ver 16 box.
hope this helps

I havent even been able to flash with the 2913... I was flashing with 3.0.3 over 3.0.1.... and now nothing comes up.. cant even get into the backup bios.. I will try changing banks to see if there is another bios loaded.. not sure that there is though..

how do you restore from something like this? if there is no screen on boot, do you boot to cd/dvd?

I really got confused on what the 3.0.x bios are for vs. the 1959/2913 bios.. Is the 3.0.x the xbox bios and the 2913 the xecuter bios?

Part of your problem is that the flashbios 3.0.3 doesn't work on a 1.6 xbox, only on 1.0-1.5 & 1.6B. Best bet is to stick your chip into another box and reflash it back to 3.0.1. I'd flash it to bank 56, then use it to flash the 2913 bios to bank 1234. Once that is all good and working, flash 3.0.1 to the backup bios.
The flashbios is a legal bios who's sole function is to allow you to flash another bios onto the chip (1959 or 2913).

others are right. Flashbios is only used to flash hacked bios or lock/unlock hd. Since you have v1.6 xbox, you need flashbios v3.0.1 since 3.0.3 has issues with v1.6 xbox only. By your description, sounds like your back up bios is still v3.0.1 but you flashed flash bios to bank 1234 of X3. What I would do is to switch your control panel to off on off off off (bank 5678). Press eject and power buttons on the console at the same time to bring up flashbios v3.0.1 and then flash with X3 2913 v16plus.bin. I do not believe you need to rename this to bios.bin since I have flashed v1.6 xbox without renaming and it was fine. Hope this helps

I flashed w/ a dvd. Maybe thats the difference in having to rename. I did try flashing w/o renaming and was unable. Go figure.
thanks for the info.
