hi, i appreciate the time people put in to doing the tutorials and stuff but i've tried to educate myself as much as possible but i've read that many different methods i've confused myself a little. the jist of it is i'd got ready to flash using xbm to upgrade from 4.x to 5.3 but it won't recognise the new firmware even with the definition update, anyway a solved this by moving to iprep where i have no problems with firmwareit even recognises ixtreme 1.2b. so i want to go from 4.x to ixtreme 1.2b but have read about the 0800 disk or bad flash method to do before updating and i'd hate to get it all wrong. i have 2 machines to flash both ms25 (1 with 4.x and the other with 5.2)the first question is, is the text file with iprep accurate as a method? their method is:

How to Use:
-----------
1. Load your floppy disk or connect your USB Flash Drive. (optional)
2. Run iPrep.
3. Detect your sata chipset, if required.
4. Open your Xtreme Firmware's .bin file.
6. Click "DO IT!".
7. Boot from your prepared drive or your NTFS cd.
8. Type "iDump xxxxxxx xxxxx" to backup your 360's original firmware and create you hacked firmware.
9. Type "iFlash xxxxxxx xxxxx" to flash the hacked firmware.

now i'm okay up to the dos part but do you have to plug the sata into the 360 when in dos and then reboot after backing up your original firmware just like in the textbook tutorial of xbm's method? also as i have a via chipset sata controller and i'm using iprep, can you use bad flash or does it have to be the 0800 disk method and i can't see the option for bad flash in iprep? and what stage do you need the run the 0800 disk before upgrading and does it need the sata cable unplugged from the 360 when using the 0800 disk? i know it seems confusing but can someone help or show me a tutorial with a step by step using iprep and incorporating the 0800 disk method please?

thanks in advance
mark

You have a VIA chipset so there's no need for the 0800 disc at all. You're just going to use the VIA bad-flash method as if they were MS28 drives. Textbook's new tutorial is up and shows the iPrep process flashing iXtreme 1.2. If you want to keep it simple, you can start from the beginning and follow the MS28 procedure to read, reboot, flash and everything will get done for you. You just follow the tutorial as if it's the first time flashing the drives. There's also a new section in the tutorial on Upgrading which shows several ways to manually create your new hacked firmware in Windows first and then skip straight to the flashing step in DOS if you want to do it that way.

thanks for the quick response, i hadn't realised they had updated the textbook tutorial for iprep which has answered all my questions, so basically if i have a ms25 that's already flashed with an earlier firmware as long as i follow the instructions for flashing the ms28 then i can't go wrong?

With a VIA chipset, yes that's exactly right. :)
