Sorry, this is probably going to be the stupidest noob question ever. But my xbox cdrom drive is very unreliable/broken when it comes to reading cd's so i want to update my bios to the newest x2 bios but i want to do so from the harddrive. I have the bios bin and flashbios 303. Is there any way i can extract the files from the flashbios bin file so i can ftp them to my xbox harddrive and run the bios update from there? Thanks for the help and please no flaming.

You need to get hold of Flash X from the usual place (it's an app for your Xbox). FTP your BIOS bin file on to your Xbox (C:\BIOS). You can then use Flash X to flash the BIOS to your chip.

well u cannot flash from the hard disk unless u have a bios or a dashboard that allows u to ftp it there...if its a new install then u only have two options..flash using cd or http.

Once your up and running u can ftp future updates to the hd and then re-flash using that method.

Sounds like he's up and running already - he wants to update his bios.............

ok...well in that case you just put the bios.bin file into a folder on the c drive labelled

C:\Bios

you need to either boot the x2 from the other bank containing flashbios or do as Br14n suggests and install Flash X

Not sure what chip you have. But to save you any confusion, if you do use Flash X, it splits your BIOS into 4x 256k banks. Banks 1 & 2 in Flash X count as Bank 1 on an X2.6/2.3b lite, Banks 3 & 4 in Flash X count as Bank 2..etc. A 2.3b Pro has 4x 256k banks.

Cool thanks for all the responses, i got flashX and it says that my chip is protected...does that mean i need to open my box and switch something or is it a software protection that can be easially disabled. im running an xbox 1.0 with an x2 lite (unsure what version)...since i didnt install it myself there arent any external switches fitted on my box besides an modchip on/off switch.

Have you got a switch bank on your Xbox? It might be an X2.3b lite, in which case it's the middle switch.
