I'm only 2 weeks young to NSW, but I have been an xecuter fan since the original XBOX. new to this content, but been an xecutor fan since the original XBOX. I believe I need to update my EmuNAND, so I'm running my thought process here, to make sure I'm right before proceeding and to make sure I do this right.

  • I picked up a Switch 2 weeks ago, it is unpatched running FW: 4.1
  • I also bought a SX Pro used it and it works well
  • I made a backup of my SYSNAND immediately, moved it off the SD and have it saved in two places.
  • I then created EmuNAND after that.
However, I have a few games that do not work, plus SX Installer gives me errors. Some searching on these forms tell me my OFW is out of date and SX Installer doesn’t support such a low firmware.

From what I can read, I need to update my EmuNAND, but NOT my SysNAND. I should keep SysNAND stock. So here are my questions

  • Should I update straight to 8.0.1 from 4.1 or should I pick an older firmware such as 7.0?
  • I’m also assuming I can go straight from 4.1 to 8.0.1 without doing intermediate updates
  • I'm currently using SX OS 2.6.2 (beta), I'm assuming I should update to 2.7.1 (beta) before I proceed?
  • I assume I just use the newest version of ChoidujouNX?
  • Should I enable AutoRCM before I update?
  • Before I update, I just need to make sure I am un EmuNAND is enabled
  • I'm currently using FAT32, I'd prefer to stick with FAT32 and not convert to exFAT. I’m assuming that is possible
  • When the update is done, I'm assuming just keep my Pro dongle attached, but do I need to press Vol + to auto enter RCM?
I’m just worried about burning a fuse, then getting stuck since I’m only 4.1

Thank you all!

Before doing anything I would suggest backing up your emunand as well as using checkpoint to back up your save files. You don't need to do either of those things, but I prefer to so I can revert back quickly if needed.

After the above you just need make sure you are booted to emunand and then update to 8.0.1 with Choi. Make sure that you have the 2.7.1 boot.dat file and you should be all set. Choi will turn on autoRCM on it's own when it does the update or you can turn it on before hand. That's up to you. You can follow this guide for updating with Choi.

Make sure you do not have any custom themes installed as well.

I set my EmuNAND to files on the SD. I'm assuming I just backup the Emutendo Folder?
I learned a tip from the anotther post, I set my scheme to "light" for OFW and "dark" for EmuNAND.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. I'll work on this once I get a reply to the above.

I usually just make a full SD backup with the data when I do mine. You can also use checkpoint to backup just your save data.

I believe the correct folder is: emunand under the sxos folder.

Do you use an App like Win32DiskImager to image the SD or just drag/drop all the files?

Thanks again,

imprezgc8, & to whoever is reading.

I did a full backup of my SD Card (because why not).
I enabled autoRCM (even tho ChoidujourNX does that); but it made me feel better.
I used ChoidujourNX & FW 8.0.1
Told it to reboot, everything worked great.
It did ask me to update my controllers, I searched the forums. Since the controller update is contained in the firmware and doesn't need internet, I proceeded.

I checked my OFW+SysNAND, I'm still on 4.1, but my CFW+EmuNAND is on 8.0.1

The issue with SX Installer is gone, the games I had issues is gone as well.

Thank you!

I have a noob question?. How to link my nintendo account just once, and after that never to go online. Is there an option to do that. I am afraid to be banned, to mess something with my switch. I use xs os 2.71 and 8.01. i never log in OFW, always used CFW. How to to that and play Nes online games, offcourse offline?

Are you using emunand? If not did you make a nand backup before doing anything? There is always a risk to get banned once you mod the console if you connect to Nintendo. If you do it once just to link the account you "may" be safe, but there is no real way to tell.

As far as NES online there is no legit way to play that on a modded console since it is part of an online service that is paid for. There may be ways, I am not too sure, but we do not allow piracy talk on this forum.
