What do you mean you tried "changing it around"?

exactly what is said i was making ava lauch the boot dashbord and now it dostn boot at all with out without the harddrive. I get error code 16 without the chip meaning it cant load the dash so i think i removed a important file on accident and not being able to see the hard drive i cant figure which file. So i just have to have someone clue me in why its not reading cds now that i made for it to boot on....

To sum up: with chip= no read cd/HD and no booting past the xbox/xecuter screen

Without chip: error 16 cant load dashbord

so are you booting up the box with the hdd connected? or not?
did you burn the bootdisc according to the tutorial on the front page?

you can download slayers and make it a bootdisc and it will rebuild the c drive for you

You still didn't answer my question. Were you deleting files, renaming files or adding files? There is no need to delete or rename anything on the stock drive in order to run a different dashboard.

When booting from the DVD drive, the Xbox looks for default.xbe. If it does not find that, it will not boot from the disc in the drive.
