Hi guys got a slim DG-16D4S which will only read games intermittently, the laser comes across and sometimes wont read the outside edge of the game and wont start up, if you put the laser in the middle of the disc and then start up, it will play the game ok, i have changed the laser twice and tested the other 2 motors and they seem fine, have also changed the plastic white arm, do you think this could be a board fault, thanks.

Sounds like the laser is starting outside of the data track at the edge, this happened in phat lite-ons once in a while too. You need to put a small rubber stopper or something similar to put at the end of the laser guide bar so it can't move to the outside edge of the disk and will always stop on the data track and not the blank edge. I've had to do this a few times before and it worked :)

Have tried with putting a little bits of various sizes of plastic at the back of the laser guide bar, but still only plays games every now and then, thought i would change laser again, made no difference and also a new ribbon cable to the laser, yet again no difference. Tried moving track up and down a little quarter of a turn in either direction, it either throws up mixed media error or unrecognized disc error, running out of ideas guys any help would be great, thanks.

I had a slim drive exactly like yours. I tried all sorts but failed. Dont like things beating me but this drive did. Ended getting a replacement drive.
