I just gave away my old xbox (v. 1.6 - xecuter 2) to my nephew as a birthday present. I got another "used" xbox v.1 and installed the 2.6 ce - soderless. Now the problem is the old HD only boots to the MS mainscreen. The Mod is on lights on but no ones home....I Have modded a xenium awhile back but this dumbfounds me that I am not getting any screens beside the regular xbox.

If you haven't even gotten to FlashBIOS yet, check the D0 wire. This is the "trigger" that tells the Xbox to boot off of the mod chip rather than the stock BIOS.

I thought that if the D0 wire wasn't correct it wouldn't work at all... Is this true?

The chip won't work without the D0 connected, since the Xbox will not boot from the chip without it. Sounds to me like your D0 is not connected, or not connected to the right spot. If neither of those are the case, check your switches with a multimeter to make sure they are working properly. Whoopin's schematic is in my sig.

So it is possible to be in the wrong hole and still have the lights light up?

Yes, the lights can still come on because the chip is getting power and is turned on. Check your install against a diagram. If that checks out then I would examine the switches.

Thanks Fantmx I plan on doing that when I get home. I just assumed that it was in the right spot because I had lights. I appreciate the insight!

How is your Xbox connected to your network? Network flashing is the easiest way, but eventually you will have to find media that your Xbox will read if you want to install a dashboard, so you may as well spend some time and figure out something there. What kind of media did you use? What speed did you burn at? What DVD drive does your Xbox have?

I tried a lot of things cd-r and cd-rw, I think I may have it isolated to the dvd-rom drive. The box that I got had an old thompson drive that didnt play the newer games, so I bought a samsung 16 speed that I was told would work. The thompson drive will say that that it is waiting for the drive when trying to boot from the cd - but the samsung stays on the falshin bios screen - forever flashing..... I am going to try to get my hands on my friends box so that I can test his dvd-rom - hopefully that will work? As for the network - that is even stranger, it is given the same IP address as my computer?? So of couse it will not get access.. I don't have a crossover cable so I am working with a hub.

What media are you using for you burned image? xbox won't read CD-R so you'll have to burn the image to either DVD-RW or DVD-R. DVD-R works fine for me.

Thanks vincent - I will try both those suggestions tonight - I found a copy of Flashx v1.1 and 1.2. I have flashed other xboxes before with cd-r's and haven't had problems, it is just this particular setup is giving me alot of grief!! I will try the dvd flash (I haven't tried that yet - didnt want to waste a dvd)

Thanks for the help
