Not sure if this is the right forum, but ill give it ago,

I bought an xbox for my daughter, wheni bought it i was led to believe that the dvd drive wasnt working, upon receipt i found that when it was powered on i got a continous green light, dvd did some spining up noises other then that nothing, after alittle investigation and advice it would seem the xbox i bought has lost its MS bios so had no 'brain'.
I was told 'get a chip that will fix it', so this is where i am today, ive installed an x2.6ce, followed a tutorial on how to edit the ini file (which im not sure worked) made .bin file using x2bm, and put on there:

Bank 1 - MS 5101 (an original MS bios)
Bank 2 - X2 5032

now i flashed all this using my good working xbox (which is a v1.6) but made sure i used the correct bios for the version xbox the dead one is (v1.5), problem i have now is that when i put the chip back into the dead xbox, nothing happens it still seems to be booting to the original MS bios, Ive got a blue light on the chip, all the lights are on, on the front switch yet no matter what bank i use it doesnt seem to boot.

Have i done something wrong or is the xbox im using beyond repair can anyone give some advice on what i could try, could it be possible the d0 point isnt working very well? how would i check or know it wasnt working?

Thanks

As the Xbox wasn't working before you installed the chip, there's no guarantee that fitting the chip will solve this.

Leave the other BIOSes for now - flash the chip with FlashBIOS 3.0.1 on your 1.6 and see if you can get FlashBIOS to boot. Just so you know, if the Xbox cannot boot a BIOS, you normally get the 3 x reboot and FRAG (Flashing Red and Green). If you're getting a blank screen and a solid green light, this is possibly something else entirely.

thanks for the advice martin,

its cleared a few things up for me, i did manage to flash the chip on my 1.6 but when i tried to boot it up again i got the frag you mentioned, i just assumed it was because i had flashed it with a bios that was meant for a v1.5 and the 1.6 couldnt read it.

ive got a funny feeling that i have now erased both flash bios's off the chip so im a little stuck so it looks like im going to have to get the programmer (think i shuoldve just got an x3 in the long run). If the d0 point wasnt very good what will the chip do?

so it looks like the xbox that was supposed to be a simple repair is now become a head ache! (why cant people be honest about there descriptions) broken dvd drive my arse!

Always be wary of faulty Xboxes - people rarely state the problem as it will cause them to lose a sale.

Either the programmer or another working chip should allow you to reflash.

Cut your losses - sell the Xbox on Ebay as a non-working unit and go down to a local games console store and pick up a 2nd hand Xbox (which should come with a warranty of sorts).

I know you'll be out of pocket, but there's no telling what money you would need to throw at this to make it work.

It could be the onboard TSOP has been hosed. There's no definite answer to this and you may need to shell out more money to fix it. As I said, cut your losses.
