Not your typical HDD problem!

I've already read all the threads related to unlocking a hdd that has been in an Xbox. Nothing in my situation has been covered.
I have a Seagate 160gig HDD locked by an Xbox I sold. I forgot to unlock it before I sent it out. I got the new owner to give me the password for the HDD. I ran the boot disk and ran the program hdunlock, put in the password and it said that it was done. Then I ran the program hddisable and it said that the device wasn't ready. Have I done something wrong? The password worked for the first program so that would seem to me that I have the correct password. If anybody could help me out I would appreciate it.

if you have a x3 you can unlock it from the bios
Can you explain how he does this if the HDDKey/Generated Password on the EEPROM doesn't match that of the HDD?

Maybe you should learn a little more (a helluva lot more) about locking/unlocking before posting..

I used the X3 bios to lock the HDD, I know better now. And he said he got the key from the xbox that I sold him. He seemed knowledgable with the subject so I didn't question him.
As a side note, why would someone make a program (hdunlock) that would display the same outcome regardless if it really worked or not. Seems a bit lazy to me.

Get him to use ConfigMagic and make a backup of the EEPROM.BIN.

Unlock any locked HDDs you have from the current EEPROM (failsafe)
Backup your current EEPROM to your HDD using X3CL.
Restore HIS EEPROM to your Xbox using X3CL.

Hopefully, on the reboot it should be accessible. unlock the HDD, then restore your original EEPROM.

This would all work well except the Xbox I sold is in another state than the HDD that I currently have. To do this he needs the HDD in discussion right?

what would constitute a change in the EEPROM? Him putting in another HDD?

No - either uploading another EEPROM.BIN file (from another Xbox) or manually editing the key data in ConfigMagic.

If he's done neither of these, then a copy of his current EEPROM will do the trick.
