ANSWERED Number of problems with Lite-On and COM port detection

Morning All,

Attempting to upgrade from 2.0 to 3.0 and I have to following hardware to attempt - USBPRO and CK3i (using external molex power adapter) with Probe. I am also using a laptop with XP.

The following problems are causing a halt in the proceedings;

1) COM port isn't getting detected.
2) DVD Key not verified in JF ( the drive has already been flashed by someone else and I don't have the BIN files.

What do / can I do to rectify both of these issues?

As you can tell from my username I am new to this and need some guidance.

Warm Regards,

First of all, what version of Lite On do you have? I don't think every version of Lite ON needs the COM connection.

Second, if your lite on took the newest dashboard update, I believe the key extraction process is different.

Third, CK3 and the 360USBPRO serve different purposes. The CK3 is just a power supply for the drive, and it conveniently has a built-in ON and OFF switch and an eject switch. The ON and OFF switch is handy because while doing the flashing you will need to power the drive on and off.
The USBPRO serves as a "bridge" to facilitate the communication between your dvd drive and the computer/jungleflasher. Unless I'm mistaken, I didn't read that you installed the drivers for the USBPRO. You must install those drivers

Fourth, is Jungleflasher detecting the drive? if it is so, what firmware version is it reporting?

that would help us to help you

This is what I can remember;
1) Lite-On DG-16D2S
2) Newest Dashboard Update
3) Drivers seem to be installed.
4) Can't remember - Can you give the steps if it did or didn't.

Hope this helps.

DG-16D2S is just the drive model not the firmware version. 16D2s usually refers to lite on drives in phat consoles. The drive model will never change. The firmware version does change.

Lite On drives in phat consoles have 4 different firmware versions: 74, 83 v.1, 83.v2, and 93.
But there's another twist. If you have the newest dashboard update installed, the firmware version won't be any of those 4. It will be firmware 02510
If you have the newest dashboard (like you said you have) then your firmware will be 02510 (Read page 84 of the Junglefasher tutorial). The tutorial also explains the different methods to extract the key IF your drive has taken the dashboard update. Read it carefully. It has the step by step process you need to dump/extract the key from your drive

If you are not sure whether your DVD drive has taken the dashboard update, there's 2 things you can do

1. Check this video Xbox360 dashboard version or
2. You need to connect the dvd drive to your laptop, of course using the CK3 and the 360USBPRO. Start jungleflasher and just go to the DVDkey32 tab.
Look at the drive properties where it says "Rev". If you have the update it should say 02510

The video link doesn't work. I have the "windows 8" looking dashboard.
In that case, then it sounds like your lite on drive has the 02510 fw. If you don't have the dummy.bin file you will have to dump the key. The challenge here is that when your drive took the dashboard update, it also flashed your dvd drive with the 02510 fw which enables a protection against key extraction. Unless you have a good copy of your dvd drive key from the previous flash, you will have to deal with the new methods for key extraction.

Start Reading from page 84 and beyond of the Junglefasher tutorial. It lists and explains the different methods to disable the protection so you can extract the key. You MUST read it because each method is different and each method requires different skills and different hardware accessories. Pick one that suits your budget and skills.

But addressing your initial question, since your lite on updated to 02510 fw, I believe the COM port issue is irrelevant. Like I said, the extraction method is different for this new firmware.

good luck

it explains it in the step by step.right at the top in big green letters.

The following guide assumes you have updated to the new XGD3 dashboard 2.0.13146.0 - Your Liteon DG-16D2S will have been updated to a new firmware - 02510C (so it is now no longer classed as a 74850C, 83850C or 93450C - but a Liteon DG-16D2S 02510C).
