occasional FRAGing

I installed the xecuter 2.6 mod a little less than a year ago and it's been working great until now.
About 25% of the times that I boot my xbox it works just fine.
The other 75% it tries to boot, then dies, tries again then dies, then FRAGs.
So, on average it takes 3 tries to boot up for my xbox to work.

I can't figure out what the source of the problem is. It's an old xbox. I got it the day the xbox was released. I noticed my the internal clock on my xbox resets all the time, which is kinda irritating when game saves are ordered by date.

If one of the pins is loose (bad soldering job), then why does it still work sometimes?
Maybe the internal clock battery is slowly dying?
Maybe it has something to with the remaining charge in the capacitors on the board?

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Thanks a ton,
Garret

There isn't a battery for the clock, there is a capacitor. But, as long as the Xbox is connected to a power source, you don't need the capacitor. Is the Xbox being moved at all to cause this problem?

well, no. That is the weird thing. Often after it FRAGs, I don't touch a single thing except the power button again, and it works. I've tried things in the past like pushing in the AV cable and power cable more, hitting the side of my xbox, waving my hands mystically in front of it, though none of which seem to effect the random chance of my xbox working properly.

Thanks for your interest in solving my strange problem.

It sounds like a loose connection somewhere. If that looks good, I would check to make sure you didn't pinch any of the wires going to the switches. You could also check the switches with a multimeter.

I'm starting to believe that the cause of my problem lies in the wires connecting to the switch. Several times now, I fixed the FRAG problem by adjusting the wires that connect to it, although they come loose extremely easily.
Thanks for helping me narrow down my problem. :)
