OH Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although your Grandfather may have fought bravely for his country, so did mine. He was at Dunkirk. You know, the Dunkirk where those NAZI bastards murdered those innocent Brits. Another thing is that the avatar is illegal in some countries. Therefore you're criminalising people from those countries coming onto the forum.

 It was called World War II... maybe you've heard of it. :D

Ok boys and girls, it's time for Catalyst's useless opinion hour. Remember, you asked for it!

Although there were Germans that were fighting nobly for their country, it is pretty easy to see why that would be overshadowed by the atrocities that happened at the hand of the Nazi army.

After WWI Germany was decimated and many of it's people were poor and much of the prosperity they knew before the war was "taken" from them by the Allied Powers.

Hitler allowed them a perfect scapegoat in the Jewish settlers that now filled their borders. Every problem the average German citizen faced was blamed on the Jews. Even if a German man raped a Jewish girl it was considered her fault for implanting deviant sexual thoughts or some other such nonsense.

Now the question you have to ask yourself about your grandfather is this. Even if he didn't participate in any of the torture or Genocide that the Nazi's committed before and right up to the end of the war... by knowing about it and by supporting a government who willingly did do these things, isn't he just as much to blame as the people who committed these atrocities? Especially if he was in the SS, which, no matter how you want to glorify it, was the most ruthless and vile branch of the Nazi Army!! The SS was responsible almost as many German civilian deaths as the Allied Army!!

You see, when you proudly display the SS symbol, whether you intend to or not you are supporting what happened during that period... and you are supporting the actions of the SS, which were some of the most horrible actions the world has seen.

My great-grandpa was in WWII, on the German side. My grandfather fought for the US in the same war. I'd like to believe that my great-grandfather was an old confused man who didn't realize the evil he was serving... but I'll never know. I'm certainly not proud of it though!!

But, I'm not your dad. You want to keep that avatar that's cool with me. :)

I just think it's a little ignorant. It's like if I had a KKK symbol because my grandpa was in the KKK but he never actually killed any black people... it'd just be stupid.

Just my opinion of course!

Highly Offensive....and I could care less if its only an Avatar...its still a symbol of pure evil....ask anyone who served in WWII on the Allied side and witnessed the Concentration Camps...study up on your history.

Yeah, pretty much:D

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/GERss.htm

The SS was the group in charge of the concentration camps in and around Germany during WWII

All the horrible stories you hear about what happened in those camps happend at the hands of members of the SS.

Yeah, lol, I don't want people to think by my thumbs up I'm siding with Nazi's and what not, just a simple random GW pic. To tell you the truth, I don't know enough about WWII to preach about it, but all I know is that Nazi's are pretty dang bad. [Excellent lesson, by the way, Catalyst :D]

Freedom of speech and all that...

Chances are absolutely ANY avatar has the chance of offending someone...

This one may be more well known than others.... it's also the symbol of an organisation that was ruthlessly crushed (or so i'm led to believe) If he wants to put the pic on his avatar it should be taken with a grain of salt.

You can please some of the people some of the time... you know that i mean

While we are on History lessons; The Battle of Dunkirk. 300,000 French and British soldiers allowed to escape unharmed. Granted, the assumption was that the French and British would later side with Germany to fight off the invading Soviet hordes, but they were, none the less, allowed to leave. As it turned out, had this act of mercy by the SS not occured, Germany would have ended World War Two then and there. So much for the evil Nazi stories!

Is my new avatar offensive? I have no relatives from there. The survivors don't scream their exaggerations daily either. Oh well, this isn't a political site and I don't aim to create one. The truth shall set you free.:D
