ok for those of you who started out with the black cromwell screen and then it went to the blue one, you probably flashed the newer cromwell bios to the chip so thats why everytime you flash it it comes up with the blue screen cromwell.. in other words you are flashing the same thing over and over again. So far from what I've learned the maxell cd-rw 650mb is the only one that reads on my xbox...thomson. I know this because this is the one that my friend used... if only i could get my hands on another *cough* pm *cough*

In front of PC
I have installed the modchip no problems. When I switch the xbox on it comes up with a blue screen (Instead of the black one that all forums mention) on this blue screen i get four options.
1. Load BIOS from Disc
2. Load BIOS from HDD (C:Bios)
3. Unlock HDD
4. Lock HDD

I have chosen the first option. it then ejects the cd tray, and says "Please insert CD - Flashing Mode". I put in the BIOS disk I have made and the xbox churns about for a bit and then ejects the cd and says "Please insert CD - Flashing Mode".

Any ideas what has gone wrong?

When making the BIOS CD I used the 4983.67 version.

Cheers

I installed a 2.6 mod chip with external switch. I don't know if I was supposed to connect the gray wire to the d0 point and connect the ground. I didn't. When I turned my Xbox on, I do not see the flash bios screen. I am using a 1.6 Xbox. The green LED lights up on the switch and the blue LED lights up on the chip. I am new at this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

I'm afraid I have a problem. I really hope somebody can provide me with some help. Please read on.

I installed my 2.6 lite chip correctly (I thought), but when I turn on my Xbox, it just behaves as if it did before (glad it still works anyway..;)).
So I don't get a Cromwell flash screen, just the microsoft dashboard.

I didn't have much time yesterday when I tried it, but I have tried setting the chip to both on and off (right switch on the external switch adapter). I haven't done anything with the other switches (flash protect and bank selection). Can fiddling with those switches still help?

Or does this just prove my chip not being fitted correctly?

I have a 1.3 box. I have installed the chip using the pin header method. So I soldered the pin header on the backside of the motherboard (pins 4 and 16 were already removed) and after that I have soldered the red, green and grey wires to the correct points on the backside of the motherboard (I think, almost sure). I connected the three wires to the chip, put the chip on the pin headers (only fits in one way, doesn't it?) and connected the external switch adapter to the chip.

Has anybody got any clue of what could be wrong?
Maybe nothing is wrong, but from what I read here in the forums, I'm afraid something is as there hardly seem to be people having the same symtoms.

Kind regards,
Rinusch.

Well, it turned out nothing was wrong.

I used bank 1 instead of bank 2 and the chip comes with Cromwell pre-installed only on bank 2. So I switched to bank 2, powered on and there was Cromwell!

Well...phew!!

im kinda gettn some of the same problems, in stalled 2.6 lite i get the blue cromwell screen right from the beginning, solder points all good, out of the 4 options, i cant switch through any of them i checked my controlloer ports those are fine, my xbox live comunicator lights up, from the first time i turned the xbox on,the tray never opened, i got the blue screen and couldnt do squat, i wasted like 25 disks burning different bios's different ways, how the heck do i flash this damn chip

every one who posted never mind i fixed it, what did you do

edit: any body else with that blue cromwell sreen that you cant move up or down through the 4 options, ive been using the controller and nothing works, talked to a budy he said you must have a keyboard and mouse connected, this i sure didnt know

edit: so now i think im were everyone else is, took xbox apart again got my usb ports in there , finaaly with the keyboard i can flash the bios, cept xbox never turns off, goes through yellow and green bars then reboots back to cromwell, light never turn amber as it says if xbox doesnt turn off to turn off when power light turns amber, this is really frustrating

I believe the chip comes with the cromwell bios on both banks. Are you sure you didn't have the chip enable switch to OFF? My external switch is installed under the xbox power button. So, the switch on the right is the bank select switch and not the ON/OFF switch.
With the chip ON, you'll see a green LED. With it OFF, you'll see a red.

1. I've read posts that said you need to use an original (M$) controller to be able to move around the 4 options.
2. My DVD drive had problems reading CD-R disks. I successfully flashed mine by creating a flash bios disk using a DVD disk. Follow the instructions provided here to the letter: http://www.teamxecuter.com/biosimage.htm

I havent seen this problem posted yet...
I burned the BIOS file, had my 2.3b lite+ on bank 1 and it did everything it says its supposed to do (yellow progress bar, then green bar, then turn off XBOX) successfully.
I then checked Bank 2 as I was told by the teamxecuter tutorial and it was the original Bank 1 screen (Please Insert CD - Flashing Mode) so I turned the XBOX off, switched to Bank 1 again(which it said was succesfully flashed) and the same screen as before is there. Its telling me to flash it again.
So I flash it again and it goes through the progress bars and shuts off by itself but every time I turn it back on it asks me to flash it again.
Please someone help me lol
Hi All

I hope this helps and sorry its a late post, only just got my hands on a virgin chip

I had the same problem as Twig here, the only way I could sort it out was to:
Switch to bank 1
Use my Slayers 2.6 disc to create a backup (C:/BACKUP)
FTP into my xbox and Create a folder called C:/BIOS
Copy the file BIOS.BIN from C:/BACKUP to C:/BIOS
Shut down xbox
Switch to bank 2
Load BIOS from HDD (C:/BIOS)

Work first time, I hope someone else has some luck this way

:) Ekips
