Another day, another SX OS update! Today we present you with SX OS v2.9.2 beta.

SX292.png

We've heard multiple times that people are tired of the BETA tag, so if we don't receive any serious complaints this will also soon be known as v2.9.2 stable. Plus of course this release fully supports the latest Nintendo Switch v9.0.1 firmware, if you had not noticed that are previous one did as well! :)

What's new in this update?

  • Local Multiplayer over the internet (LAN play) is working again.
Somewhere down the line we introduced a regression in functionality causing local multiplayer emulation to be broken and/or out of sync with the current lan-play implementation. This has been addressed and should work correctly again.
  • Extended scope of Stealth Mode
Recently it has come to our attention that there was claims floating around about stealth mode being broken on SX OS v2.9+. We investigated these claims and are happy to let you know this is completely wrong. Stealth Mode behaved exactly the same like it always did. Nonetheless, we took this feedback/rumour as an opportunity to further tighten down on the stealthiness. From now you cannot start the eShop application if you have stealth mode enabled. Furthermore all error reporting and telemetry has been neutered. That means errors that are generated while using SX OS that might get you "flagged" won't be queued up for delivery when you boot into OFW anymore either!
  • Improved XCI game compatibility
In our last update we already addressed some compatibility issues with re-packed XCI images, yet some XCI files were still not playable. We investigated this issue and as it turns out there are certain tools around (older versions of 'NSC Builder' for example) that generate bogus metadata for the (encrypted) 'Gamecard Info' that is part of the XCI header. Our gamecart emulation now detects these bad images and fixes them. If you want your XCI images to be future proof; please be careful with whatever post-processing you apply to XCI files though, we can't clean up after other people's mistakes indefinitely!
  • Rebooting SX OS
If you select "restart" now from the power options menu you will actually reboot into SX OS. There is no need to replug your SX Pro dongle or send a payload from your computer when doing so. Additionally, if an error occurs you can also reboot into SX OS by simply pressing the power button. Neat!

That's it for today, folks! This is probably one of the final releases in the 2.X series of SX OS. We received many suggestions as to what you want to see in SX OS 3.0. Suffice to say, we work hard to bring you all of those, so for now our SX OS 2.9.2 beta is now available on our download page and also as an OTA update using the SX OS builtin updater. What are you waiting for?!

Hi TX,

Has the USB / HDD Read and Install during Dock Mode been fixed? Still haven't got the time to check it out as I am away from home at the moment.

Thanks for fixing the USB/HDD Read and Install functionality during Dock Mode. Have tried installing a couple XCIs and NSPs via a plugged-in Flash Drive. No more system crash. :)

What's the purpose of restarting into SxOs in what situation is it useful!? If you turn the console off you still need to use the SxOs hardware so why would you want to reboot once your already in it!? Am I missing something!?

I understand that if for some reason the console crashes, you push the power button and it will restart on sx os automatically ??‍♂
Any way to launch Tinfoil when pushing eShop icon instead Stealth Warning?

Oh ok that makes sense! Dont think I would use it! I would like it to just stay on the console when turning it off and on again like in the PSP days! But not complaining SxOs is great as is!

The restart feature is so welcome. SX OS crashes for me with checkpoint or any new homebrew i try to use. I stopped using homebrew because I hated using the dongle everytime it restarted. Thank you.

Installed Game through INSTALLER from USB, had to put in a folder called NSP.

Installed game update through INSTALLER (SX OS Crashed, had to reboot with power button)

Tried to remove the nsp files through INSTALLER, again SX os crashed and had to reboot with the power button. This happened every time i tried to remove the file... so were unable to remove the files.

Can anybody help me? I have no idea what's going on, I don't know if it's SX OS 2.9.2 or if it's my SD Card but I will explain the problem. Yesterday I used checkpoint as I normally do (although I only used it for Pokémon and for Mario Maker 2 at the time) I used it to load a save game of Zelda Breath Of The Wild that I generated in a place where save files are generated, after that everything started to fail with the SD Card, can't save the videos (show me that there was an error, already the videos are saved in my SD Card) the games that I have in the SD Card crashes like Spyro or Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, after formatting the SD card with doing normal format and quick format, then after checking that there were no mistakes on the SD card, sometimes it always showed me a boot.dat error, it also showed me that I had to restart SX OS and it showed me a code of error (I don't remember what it was) after the game stopped and stopped reading the SD card, I tried another SD card and I got the same boot.dat error (the boot.dat file is SX OS 2.9.2), so I have changed to SX OS 2.9.1 to verify if it is an SX OS version problem or if it is something else. Does anyone have the same problem with checkpoint?

I love the reboot once the switch crashed.. so is the reboot option under the button.

I guess you still need the dongle only if you power it on right? (I rarely turn it off)

Hi. SXOS 2.9.2 has a bug that produces SX Pro never launches power off payload when AutoRCM is on and you choose "Power off" from NSW menu.
No more SX Pro green and blue lights, just if you press console power button again and dongle starts SXOS ... again. Welcome battery drain!
